Review of the Thule Roadway 4 Bike Folding Carrier

Today we are going to show you part number TH914. This is the folding 4 bike carrier for inch and a 1/4 and 2 inch trailer hitches, the Thule Roadway. It is easy to use and it carries up to 4 bikes, as mentioned before. The roadway by Thule has a dual arm design that accommodates a wider variety of bikes. It has soft cradles that keep the bikes tightly secured to the carrier. There is also an anti sway strap to keep bikes from rocking back and forth while you travel. You may conveniently use this bike rack with either a 1 inch and a 1/4 or a 2 inch receiver. It has 2 quick release levers which allow it to tilt towards you to gain better access to the rear of the vehicle. It also has a quick release lever at the top of the bike rack so that the arms fold down for better storage capabilities. It has a built in anti rattle device that reduces the vibration and noise of the rack and hitch while you are traveling down the road.

It has a weight capacity of 140 pounds and it can carry only 2 bikes with a class 1 trailer hitch. It measures 10 and a 1/2 inches from the center of the pin hole to the upright bar of the bike carrier. We are going to show you how some of these features work. We will start off with how you convert it from a 2 inch to an inch and 1/4 receiver. Next we are going to show you how to convert it from an inch and 1/4 to a 2 inch. It takes a tool that comes with the bike carrier like an allen key. You put that in and unscrew it before you take off the original shank. It just simply slides off and you are ready for 1 inch and 1/4 receiver. Next we will go ahead and put it into our trailer hitch here on our vehicle and show you how the anti sway bolt works. You simply lift it up and make sure that you line it up so the hitch bolt will be able to get in through there. Here is the hitch bolt here, it works just like any other bolt wood. And it comes with this tool here to tighten it down.

It is nice and sturdy and is not going to go anywhere. Next we are going to show you the tilting feature of this. We will start with the bottom part of it. You simply lift up on the latch and let the bike rack fall towards you, which enables you to have rear access to your vehicle, your SUV or even your truck. Next we are going to be going to the top portion of it and show you how the arms fold down also. It is a very similar process, you lift up on the latch and once you have these folded down this will enable you to have better storage capabilities then what you have in your garage. We will now show you how a bike actually fits on there. Then after that, we will move onto the cradles and show you the features of those as well. Before we put the bikes on, we are actually going to unstrap the cradles here, get them ready. We will go ahead and grab our bike. Lift the bike up over the arms. Now you can adjust the cradles to fit the contours of your bike a little bit easier.

Then you just simply strap it down and it is ready for transport. And now you see the cradles here, first off we will start with the straps. They are nice and flexible and you have connection points on both sides of the cradle. The cradles are nice and easily move side to side and front to back. Now if you look into the cradles here, you can see these little grooves here and these are made for your cables so they do not mash up against the frame once you tighten your bike down. There you have it for part number TH914 the folding 4 bike carrier for 1 inch and 1/4 and 2 inch trailer hitches, the Thule Roadway.
