Review of a Thule Complete Crossroad Kit with Long Bars and Locks

Today we are going to review part number TH45050 from Thule. This is Thules Complete Crossroad Kit with 50-inch Long Bars and Locks. What this is designed for basically is, if you have got a factory roof-rack system that does not have crossbars, just the bars that go from front to rear, this will complement what you have, and you can use a variety of Thule components on top of it. This is all you need. You have got the factory roof rack. You do not have to buy any other parts, aside from the objects that you want to attach to the bars themselves.

This is the part that actually sits on the bars on your factory roof rack it does not do any scratching to your vehicle. This strap wraps around it, around the bar, and goes to this slot right here, and then gets tightened down into place. There is this little Allen bolt here that you tighten up to take up the tensioned here so it tightens onto the bar. There is a little arrow molded in to tell you where to center the roof-rack bar on the pad. Also, the mounting pads on here also move back and forth to suit the width of the bars on your vehicle. Next are the components that come with the crossbars. These contain the tool to actually tighten down the bars onto the roof rack. And also, you can see on the end here they actually have a little cap here where you can install the locks. And these are the lock cores themselves. They are all keyed alike, plus they come with a lock core key. Now we will go ahead and install these bars and give you a good idea of how they fit, how they look, and how they work for you.

All right, we are going to install this on our typical roof-rack situation. We will lift it over the vehicle and set it on top of the roof bars. All right, we will check to make sure the arrow is in the middle of the crossbar. And now we will take the strap and push it into the slot on the back side. And here we will do the same on both sides. With the straps temporarily on, take some time to center the crossbar. Once that is done, go ahead and tighten it down with the provided Allen key. When tightening, take the tool and slip it underneath the bolt and pop it into position. If it has a lock core installed, you can lock it and not worry about someone running off with it. When installing the second bar, the minimum distance is 24 inches difference between the bars. Once they are both tightened down, you are ready for your Thule roof accessories. And that covers it for part number TH45050, Thules Complete Crossroad Kit with the 50-Inch Bars and Locks.
