Review of a Swagman Swedge 3 Bike Fold-Down Rack
Today we are going to show you part number S64326 from Swagman. This is the Swedge 3-Bike Fold-Down Carrier. This carrier is designed for 1-1/4 inch receivers. And we will show you how it works.
The first feature we will show you is the bottom of the rack itself, the shank that actually goes into the hitch. It uses a conventional hitch pin and clip to hold it inside. However, you can add an anti-rattle device if you need to. The shank itself kind of curves up as it rises to about another 1-1/4 inches so it gives you a little bit of extra ground clearance. Also, this rack will fit Class I and Class II receiver hitches. All right, the next feature we will talk about is the tilt feature itself. And it actually is a locking tilt, with the lock right here. You use a soda machine key. You unlock it and then you can actually take the rack while it is unloaded, of course and then you can pick it up and pull it out of your way to get to items in the back of your vehicle. So you do not have to worry about taking the whole thing off to get back into the trunk or the rear area of your SUV.
All right, next we will talk about the cradles and top plate of this bicycle rack. The cradles themselves have a ridged, rubber lining to it so it keeps the bike from rotating too much. And it also allows space for the cables. And this top plate removes by unscrewing these handles, and it has the same padding on top. And also, if you want to add your own lock to it, there is actually a hole on the top plate and on the bottom plate here, so you can actually lock this plate down to secure your bicycles. At this point we will go ahead and add a bicycle and show you how it works.
We actually have two bikes installed here. Now we will go ahead and put the top plate back on and go ahead and tighten them down. All right, and with that our bikes are properly installed and definitely will not go anywhere, so they are ready to travel down the road. And there you have it for part number S64326 from Swagman.
