Review of a Swagman XP 3 Bike Folding Rack for 1-1/4 Hitch
Today we are going to show you part number S64925 from Swagman. This is their three-bike XP rack. We have it shown here on a 1-1/4 inch receiver hitch and it is a Class I. On Class I receiver hitches, this bike rack is rated for only two bicycles, but if you have a Class II receiver hitch, you can put three bicycles on it. Also, if you need more capacity, this bicycle rack is also available in a two-inch variety, too, and that part number is S64950. We will start from the bottom and work our way up. As you can see here, we have installed a Class I receiver and use a conventional hitch pin and clip assembly. And also what is nice about it is that the shank here actually comes up about another 1-1/4 inches so that gives you a little bit of additional clearance from the bottom to the ground. Every little bit helps in a low-riding vehicle.
Next we will talk about the tilt feature. It has got a nice cover on the end of it and it uses a distinct key, kind of like a Coke machine. Unlock it and then tilt it back, give it a little bit of a pull up, and then it comes back down. Next we will go ahead and install a bicycle. It is always a good idea if you are hauling only one bicycle or two, always put the load toward the front of the rack. That way, it saves undue wear and tear if you put it on the back. But for our purposes we are going to go ahead and install on the back cradle and show you how easy it is to use.
All right, now that we have our bike installed, we will tell you about the cradle, which is really nice. As you can see, on the back cradle, we have got them level, but on this one you can adjust it to have it angle to match the frame on the bike, such as this alternative frame here. All three of them you can adjust that way, so you can actually fine-tune a bicycle rack to specific bikes. And what is nice about the cradles here is that it has got a rubber lining on it. And also, for added security, the knob on the end is a locking knob. So you can crank it down as tight as you need to and then use your key to lock it, and then you can spin it to unlatch or unscrew. Now you can take this knob and also use it on any other different cradles. And one real nice feature about the padding in the cradles is they have grooves in them, which allows the bicycle cables to fall into the grooves and not push up against the bottom of your frame. All right, and there you have it for part number S64925, the XP bicycle rack from Swagman.
