Review of the SportRack Escape 4 Folding Bike Rack
Today we are going to show you part number A30404 from SportRack. What we have here is a folding 4-bike carrier for 1-1/4 inch and 2-inch receiver hitches. And this model is the SportRack Escape 4. And we will go ahead and install this on a typical 2-inch receiver hitch and show you how it works. To show you how to convert this to a 1-1/4 inch receiver, it is pretty easy. This bushing is basically a press-on fit. So you can just take a screwdriver and just kind of pry it away a little bit and it comes apart. And there you have it, it is ready for a 1-1/4 inch receiver hitch. Next we will go ahead and install it on a typical 2-inch receiver hitch.
When you install it in the receiver hitch you actually have two options. You actually have two threaded holes in the shank to go ahead and install your hitch bolt to go into it. You have about a 2-inch difference between the two holes, so you have enough room between different hitch and bumper combinations. Just take your hitch bolt and it just threads right in. And let us go ahead and tighten it down - use a three-quarter wrench. And then you can install your safety pin on the other side.
Next we will show you the tilt feature of this bicycle rack. It is pretty easy to use. Just pull out the hitch pin on the end here. Let us go ahead and let it tilt down. And there you have it. Easy access to the back of your truck on SUV. Next we will show you how the arms unfold. Again, it is a simple procedure of pulling up the pin, tilting up the arms, and putting the pin back into place. At this point, the bicycle rack is ready to carry bicycles.
Next we will go ahead and install a bicycle and show you how it attaches. And also there is an anti-sway cradle that is built in right here. As you can see, it is pretty easy to install a bike. You have one, two points of contact and also you get the third point of contact with the anti-sway cradle. And you can see the cradles themselves are soft material, so they will not scratch your bikes. And the rubber straps stretch pretty easily across any bicycle frame. They just attach right here. And over here we have facing the opposite way is the anti-sway cradle. The whole cradle itself can rotate. You can move this independent of it to match any type of downtube. And there you have it for part number A30404 from SportRack, the folding 4-bike carrier for 1-1/4 and 2-inch trailer hitches.
