Review of a Softride Versa Tilting and Folding Cargo Carrier
Today we are going to show you part number 25867 from Softride. This is their Cargo Carrier. One of the first features we will show you is the anti-rattle hitch bolt that comes with the carrier. It is pretty easy to use. It actually threads into a fitting inside the shank. And what that does is, it actually clamps the shank against the side of the hitch so it will not move anywhere. And you can tighten it up using a 7/8 wrench. Once you have it tightened down, then you can actually put the lock cover into place, and it snaps into place. Put your cover on, and it is good to go. Nobody can walk up and unbolt it and take the carrier rack down. And also while we are on the subject of where it goes into the hitch, you can also see off to the side here is an additional hole, so that can allow you to adjust between different hitch and bumper combinations. All right, next we will show you the tilt feature of this cargo carrier. It is pretty nice.
Instead of having a pin to put it up in the air, you simply just move the lever. Move this lever right here toward the inside and then just raise up. And you can see it automatically locks back into position, so you can drive down the road with it in its stored position. And a lot of cargo carriers can tilt up as shown here, but this one you can actually tilt down at a little bit of an angle, too. You do have to remove a pin if you want to do that. Again, it is pretty easy. You just pull this pin out here and operate the lever as before to unlock it. There you have it. You have got it tilted down out of the way and you can actually still get to the back of your SUV if you have to.
Next we will show you the posts that come with the cargo carrier. They actually fold up, so in case you have some tall objects in the carrier you have something to tie those off to. It is pretty simple. You just pull this little pin out right here and then simply rotate them up. Next, we will go ahead and put a couple objects in the cargo carrier and tie them down, just to give you an idea of how to use the tie-downs. And there are four tie-downs located in the front edge here. They are linked well into place, so they definitely will not go anywhere. Also, you can use the tie-downs that are right here and here, as well as on the corner and on the back side of the cargo carrier, too. We will show you a couple tie-down cords here, and we will put a cooler in next simple and easy. When fully loaded, this cargo carrier can accommodate up to 350 pounds of cargo.
