Review of a Rola Triple X Folding 3 Bike Rack
Today we are going to show you part number 59403 from Rola, the TX 103 bike carrier. This three-bike hitch mounted bike carrier will work on a 1-1/4 or 2-inch receiver. We will go ahead and install it on a typical 2-inch receiver and show you how it works. When you are first assembling your bike rack, you have a choice of setting it up for a 2-inch or 1-1/4 inch receiver hitch. If you are going to use it for 1-1/4, it is just a simple task of taking the shank and installing it in here and putting the bolts through. Now if you need to use it for a 2-inch receiver hitch, you will be assembling it this way. You would take these two pieces of steel, which would basically be like a bushing, and you would put those on each side of the 1-1/4 inch shank, and that would fit up on the inside of here. Then there is just the simple step of tightening the bolts, and the bicycle rack will be ready for a 2-inch receiver hitch.
We will go ahead and install this bicycle rack on a 2-inch receiver hitch. You have a couple of different hitch pin holes in here to vary the distance coming off from the hitch to make way for different types of hitches and bumper combinations. Next we will show you the tilt feature on this bicycle rack. It is pretty nice. It uses a soda machine key in this lock right here. You turn it and the lock pops out. All right next we will show you the tilt feature of this bicycle rack. It is pretty nice. It has a lock on the side right here. Give it a gentle pull and it falls over and catches right here. And this feature allows you to get into the back of your pickup or van or SUV.
Another really nice feature about this bicycle rack, for storage or when you are not using it on the back of the vehicle, is these arms fold down and out of the way. It is pretty simple. You pull out this pin on the side and then you take off the handle. Then you can rotate these down and reinstall the handle, pull out the pin, and it seats all the way in. And that way it is not taking up any extra room behind your vehicle when you are not using it. Next we will go ahead and install a bicycle and show you how it gets strapped in. Next we will show you the cradles on this bicycle rack. It is pretty nice. It has these nice wide rubber straps that hold the bike in of course. And the cradle itself is plastic with a rubber inlay so it does not scratch up the bikes and it also has little grooves in there to let the cables on the bike fit inside there and not rub against the frame. And also each one comes equipped with an anti-sway cradle. Basically, this part right here goes against the bike and this course goes around to part of the bike too, as you can see on the front one we have here. And there you have it for part number 59403 from Rola, the TX 103 bike carrier for 1-1/4 and 2-inch receiver hitches.
