Installation of a EGR Bug Shield Hood Protector on a 2006 Ford Escape

Today we are going to be installing part number 393341 on a 2006 Ford Escape. All right, the first thing we are going to do, obviously, is get the hood up and into place. We want to go ahead and put the bug shield on and check for the alignment of the holes that are existing in the underside of the hood. Holding the bug shield up into place, you can see that there are two existing holes here, in the hood, as well as one off to the side. And it is going to be that way on both sides of the vehicle.

OK, now that we have identified where the bug shield is going to mount on the bottom side of the hood, we want to go ahead and put the plugs in place that are going to be where the screws go into. We want to put the two white plugs that are provided in the kit on the outboard-side holes, and we want to put the gold ones in the holes that are more inboard side. OK, now that we have got the plugs into position, we can go ahead and put the bug shield back on. We want to make sure the notches in the plugs go inside the notches in the bug shield. And actually use the small trim plugs that they provide on the outboard-side secondary hole, here. Kind of loosely install those and that will hold the bug shield in place so that we can get everything aligned properly. And then we can go ahead and loosely install the hardware into the plugs. On the outboard-side holes we want to use the black screws with the black washer. And again, we want to leave those loosely installed. And on the inboard side we want to use the gold screw with the smaller plastic washer.

OK, with all the screws loosely installed into the bug shield, we want to check the alignment on both sides to make sure the bug shield is centered. And with the bug shield properly centered, we can go ahead and tighten the screws down. And with all the screws tightened down and the plug in place as well, your installation is complete. And this concludes the installation of part number 393341 on a 2006 Ford Escape.
