Assembly of the Thule Terrapin Enclosed Cargo Carrier
We will start off by installing the base into our 2 inch receiver hitch and installing the anti-sway mechanism. To install our anti-sway device, we have to install this bolt, this lock washer and this flat washer. And what happens, it goes into the assembly here, into your 2 inch receiver hitch, and we just simply thread it down tight. Get as far as you can with your hand and then Thule provides a tool to tighten it down with. All you have to do is snug it, you do not have to give it a lot of force. Then it all becomes one piece of your hitch. Now were going to assemble our lock assembly, and what we need to do is insert this core into our lock and we will do that by using our pass key. Hold the lock core down, pull out your key and try it with the actual key. And then, take out your plug and check the operation of the lock. Once you have that accomplished, we can go ahead and install our anti-sway device.
Now if someone gets a wrench and tries to back this off, the bolt can not come out because it still has to go through here. Going back to the actual box itself, we need to take out this liner section here so we can get to the access holes and bolt this down to the base. What we need to do is pop this liner out. At this point no we can go ahead and install this on our base. You can see there is three ribs in there and they just sit on top of this. Move our cable out of the way to make sure we do not trap that either. Right here, here and here, those are the three ribs you need to align with the base. You know you have it in the right direction and the right spot when the brass inserts are showing. At this juncture we can go ahead and just install the bolts to hold everything together. It has a flat washer and a bolt. You use this allen tool that actually comes with the kit to tighten them up. At this point we can go ahead and reinstall the lining. At this point we can go ahead and install the little pockets that come with it. The next step we need to do is go ahead and zip tie our cable to the cross arm here to make sure that when it pivots back and forth it does not get pinched in. You can pretty much arbitrarily put it anywhere you want, just make sure when you close it that this does not get pinched inside of here. Maybe leave it loose and try it a few different ways until you finally cinch it down. That pretty much covers it for part # TH684 the terrapin from Thule, the enclosed cargo carrier.
