Installatioin of a Wiring Harness on a 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118393 on a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. The first thing we are going to need to do is to remove the tail lights from the vehicle. To do that, we are going to go ahead and lower the tailgate, like we have already done, and on the inboard side here there are three screws that we are going to need to remove to get the tail light assembly off. So we need to do that for both sides. Okay, with the screws removed, we can gently wiggle the tail light assembly back and forth to allow us to remove the push rivets that are at the bottom. And with the tail light pulled back, you can see here is the connection point that we are going to be plugging our harness into. So you want to go ahead and disconnect that. You can see here that there is a push tab. Set that off to the side for the time being. We are going to go ahead and take our harness, and we are going to start with the connection that has the yellow and brown wires on it. This is the one that is going to be plugged into the drivers side assembly. And you can see here on this side we have also got a white wire with a ring terminal on it. This is for the ground. We are going to need to take and feed this below the vehicle and attach this to the frame.

We are going to do the same with the T-connector for the other side. We are going to route it below and feed it all the way over to the other tail light. And we will feed the 4-pole down below as well, where it will attach to the trailer hitch.Okay, now we have got the Modulite box portion of the harness. You can see on the back side of it we have got some double-sided tape. We want to go ahead and tape this to the back side of where the tail light assembly was setting. It may be a good idea to clean this area off before you tape it to it. Then we can go ahead and plug the other half of the harness in to the back of the tail light assembly, and we will go ahead and put the tail light back on. Okay, now we are going to go underneath the vehicle, where we are going to go ahead and route the other connector over to the passengers side tail light assembly, and we are also going to attach our ground wire.

We are underneath the vehicle now, and we are actually directly underneath the drivers side tail light assembly. You can see I have got my ground wire coming out, as well as the wires for the passengers side connector and the 4-pole. The ground wire is not quite long enough to reach the frame itself, but this is a pretty substantial structural piece here, so I can go ahead and mount it, my ground stud to that, using the self-tapping screw that was provided in the installation kit. Now I can go ahead and route my 4-pole and my connector for the passengers side. I am going to actually route it actually right through the upper channel here, all the way over, so we can feed it through there - we can just feed that right through. And that will help keep the wires up out of the way from where they can get pinched or damaged. Then I am just going to come back over here and feed my connector up through the opening below the tail light assembly and up to the top, where I am going to make my connection with the tail light assembly. All right, and finally we just want to make our connection here at the passengers side tail light. We will just put our tail light back on. And you just want to make sure, that if you have got any loose wires hanging, that you get those secured up, and then your installation will be complete. This will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 118393 on a 2007 Toyota Tacoma.wiring harness part number 118393 on a 2007 Toyota Tacoma.
