Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring
Today we are going to be installing the 4-Pull converter, part number 119175 on a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta. Okay we are inside the trunk area and I have already removed the bottom portion of the trunk well area and the rear threshold piece. The wires that we are going to need to access are going to be directly behind the tail lights. And there is actually a door here, if you open this up and fold this down you can open this door and you can see the main wiring harness for the tail light is right here at the bottom. So you can actually follow that down and test those wires.
I have gone ahead and pulled the main one at the back of the tail light assembly and I am going to strip back some of this tape here and go ahead and test those wires. We are going to start by testing for the left-turn signal, which is a brown wire with a white stripe on it. Next we are going to go ahead and test for the running lights which looks to be the gray wire with the black stripe. Okay and then lastly the brake lights. And that appears to be a red wire with a black stripe. We are going to take our converter box here, and you can see this one bundle here has the three wires that we just tested for along with the white wire that needs to be grounded. The red one is going to be the brake lead. Yellow one is your left-turn lead. Brown is your running lights.
And we will go ahead and make our connections now. To make our connections we are going to use basic scotch locks, which look like these. What you do is put the wire you are going to be connecting to into it and take the wire we are connecting to it into the other side. And then just take a basic set of pliers and crimp that down. And that makes our connection for us. And just flip the cover over and our connection is made. We are going to be doing that for all three wires. Then next we want to go ahead and secure our ground wire. I am going to be using a self tapping screw to make my connection. I am actually probably going to mount that directly to this flat section right here behind the tail light. Then we want to find a spot to mount our converter box itself. As you can see here on the back side of it we have double sided tape. I am going to go ahead and just peel off that, the cover for it and adhere it to somewhere in the inside that is a protected area. Probably going to mount it right behind that cut-out there.
Okay then lastly we want to go ahead and make our connection to the right-turn wire. We have a longer green wire here, the extra length is so that is can reach all the way over to the passenger side tail light assembly. The wire is actually feeding the tail light assembly on the passenger side, running here right by the drivers side. They actually run directly across so I can actually access it right here instead of having to run it all the way across. So again I am just going to cut back a little bit of the tape and we will use our tester again and test for the right-turn signal. And it looks to be the black wire with the green stripe on it. I am going to take another scotch lock and make our connection there. And go ahead and tape that up as well. Cut off the excess wire. With all the connections made the installation is complete. We just want to make sure we go ahead and put our interior back together. And this will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 119175 on a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta.
