Installation of a Wiring Harness on a 1999 Honda CRV
Today we are going to install part number 118336 from Tow Ready, and we are going to install this on a 1999 Honda CRV. To begin our install we actually have to get behind the speaker area. That is where the plug is actually attached at. We will just go ahead and pry this off, and then there are three screws that we have to undo to get behind the speaker. Be careful that you do not poke a hole in the speaker. And there is the plug right there, taped to the speaker wires. We will leave that sit there for now. And actually, if you want, you can actually take the speaker off - it might be a little easier to work with. What we do next is go ahead and pull back our carpeting, pull out this hatch, and then we are going to take this little plastic screw out to get back underneath here. All right, next we are going to route our cable from inside here down here. And it is all sheet metal behind here. So really we are going to take this panel loose and pull it away from it and run the cable between the metal and the plastic. And that means taking off this, this threshold, and pulling this back out so we can get some working room. First, we will take off this tie-down bracket - give us some working room there. And you can see we have got to take this thing off to get some more working room. So that means we have got to clean off this area here to get underneath here to take out our threshold.
All right, next we will go ahead and pull off the cover, pull out this tray, and then this inside tray also comes out. And we will need to loosen this rivet, too, and then pull up the carpet, and that will give us some room to pull this apart. There we go - perfect. Now we can route our plug inside it. Just simply make our connection and then pull out - leave the converter box tucked away on the inside. There is actually a little hole back there where you can tuck it in. And then we will just go ahead and attach the box to the inside panel here. At this point, we can go ahead and start reattaching our interior trim panels. Now I will reinstall our speaker. We ran our cable out through the end here underneath this plastic. We are just going to leave it coming over the carpet here and we will just leave it stored inside this pocket when we are not using it. We will go ahead and put our plastic rivet back in here. Leave that there for now. And this is optional: you can actually cut a little slice into it, one on each side, make a little fold for it,and then just have it left in there. Put our cap back on, put our little plastic rivet back in here - there it goes. And we will go ahead and put our tie-down back in - there we go. Put our speaker cover back on, and then we go ahead an put our basket back in next, and then reinstall the threshold. Put the seal back on. Replace our bolt, put its lid back on. When all the plastics have been reinstalled, just put the carpet back into place. And your vehicle is ready to go.
And again, when you are ready to use it, just go ahead and pull out the cable, off to the side. Pull it down to the hitch, and go ahead and shut the door on it. Just shut the door on it and then you can pull out slack as needed. All right, and there you have it for our install of part number 118336 from Tow Ready on a 1999 Honda CRV.
