Today on this 2009 Pontiac G8 we are going to install part numbers 119176, the modulite from Tow Ready. And also we are going to install part number 118151, also from Tow Ready, the modulite wiring kit. The first thing we need to do is get inside of the vehicle so we have to open up the trunk. And we will have to remove some carpeting and interior panels to get access to the wire harness. Remove the tie-down points so we can remove the threshold panel here. Push it back a little bit and then just pull up on the snaps. Alright, there are a couple more attachment points we need to pull out. Now that we have all of our panels pulled back, we have access to the wiring. And you can see here on the driver side, there is a battery. So we will run our hot lead for our modulite to the battery right here which is fine. 1:10
We are going to get all of our inputs for our taillights and everything else from the passenger side. Alright, if you follow the wire harness from here, you can see it Ts off right here. One goes to the passenger side taillight and the other side will go over to the driver side taillight. The first thing we need to do is go ahead and pull back the electric tape that is covering the wires. To install our modulite we are going to do one circuit at a time. First off we start with the running light circuit. And we are going to take our wire tester and we are going to probe where the wires go into the socket here. So that is the running light circuit and that is going to be brown with the white stripe. And we are going to use a quick splice to do that. And that is going to be part number 564. Now the wire we are connecting it to is a pretty small gage wire. So we will go ahead and use a test light to double check our connection. 2:01
Alright, now we will go ahead and test for our right turn signal. Alright and that looks like a green wire with a white stripe and silver bands. And that will go to green on our modulite. And we will have to cut that off short. For the left turn signal we are going to look into this harness here. It looks like yellow with a black stripe and silver bands. So we will hook up that color to our yellow on our modulite. Alright, the next thing I am going to do is go ahead and test for a brake signal. We will go back up to the connector behind the taillight and test. Our stop light circuit is going to be blue with silver bands and we are going to hook that up to red on our modulite. We will take our white wire and ground it to the body. We will use this piece of sheet metal right here. 3:43
What we will go ahead and do is take our module here and we are just going to attach it to the sheet metal right here. And then we will go ahead and run our power wire over to the battery. Now this is our red wire. We will connect this to the black wire that comes with the kit, part number 118151. Take this and run it along the factory wire harness and up to the positive side on our battery. Then we will cut off our excess. And on to the end of the wire we are going to install the fuse holder which is this part right here. Let us cut the loop in half and on one side we will put a butt connector. On the other side we will put the ring terminal. Now we are going to take a few moments to zip-tie our wires, make sure they are safe and out of the way. Alright, we will take the cover off of the positive side of the battery and we will connect up to that. Let us go ahead and reinstall our battery cover. And then we will install the fuse into the fuse holder. It will be 10 amps that comes with the kit. 5:30
Alright, now that we have everything hooked up, let us go ahead and test the functions with a test light before we go ahead and button up all of the interior components. The first thing we are going to do is take our ground clamp and put it to the white wire. We will go ahead and check for our running light circuit which will be brown. Ok, now we will try our left turn which will be yellow. Ok and green will be right turn. And then our brake signal which will be yellow and green. It tests out good. We will go ahead and replace all of the interior components now. Now our 4-pole harness can stay inside of the vehicle when it is not being used. And when we need to use it just pull it out, what you need to go down to the hitch. And you shut the hatch on it. Just make sure you stay away from the latch. Alright with that that will finish our install of part number 119176 and part number 118151, both from Tow Ready.
