Today we are going to install a T-1 wiring connector by Tow Ready on a 2006 Pontiac Torrent, part number 118391. To begin our install, we are going to remove the side panel it just snaps out. Next we have to take out the jack. Once the jack is removed we want to look for the wiring harness. As you can see, the wiring harness is just electrical taped down in the bottom of the cavity of the frame, and once you get it freed up, all you need to do is just connect the wiring harness to it and ground it, and then you are good to go.
Look down in the opening, and there is a wiring harness located in the bottom. Just free the wiring harness up and pull it out as far as you can so you can make the connection to the T-1 connector. So we are going to use the T-1 connector, and we are going to connect it to the one in the vehicle. And once we connect this we are going to ground to the metal plate that the jack was supported on. Move the insulation from the jack aside. I am going to mount the ground right here on the plate. Sometimes it is easier, since we are in a tight spot, to pre-drill the self-tapping screw first and then went back over it and installed the wire next.
All right, once the ground is connected and the connection is made, the last part is mounting the actual box. The best place to do that is to peel off the double-sided tape and find a nice, flat piece and in this instance we will use the bottom of the opening down there. Now that you have the box mounted, go ahead and resecure the padding for the jack. And then make sure you have your 4-pole wires ran out yet. And then we want to reinstall the jack. Now that the jack is firmly secured, make sure you have plenty of room with your wires, and you can reinstall the fascia plate.
Now you have all the extra wire from the 4-pole connector, and you can swing it out loose, and it stretches. Whenever you want to use your 4-pole, stretch it out. Make sure you stay away from the latch and you can close the door, and it leaves plenty of slack outside the vehicle and you can hook up your trailer. OK, now that the wiring is outside the vehicle, and you are obviously ready to use your trailer or whatnot, you can run the wiring down to the bottom to the tow loop if you want it, and just connect it like so when you are not using it.
Now, with the wiring outside the vehicle, it gives you plenty of room to go all the way down to your hitch and hook up your trailer. And whenever you are not using it, you can always just roll it back up and store it with the jack, so it is out of the way and will not get pinched. Just like that - it is out of sight and out of mind. This concludes our install on a 2006 Pontiac Torrent of a T-1 wiring connector by Tow Ready, part number 118391.
