Review of the Swagman Fork Down Roof Bike Rack

Today we are going to show you the fork style, roof mounted bike rack from Swagman, part number S64710. The Swagman fork mounted bike rack accommodates bikes with quick release front wheels. It is designed to fit square load bars and most OEM cross bars. Included with the rack is a tie down strap to secure the rear wheel in the bike rack. The Swagman bike carrier attaches to the roof rack of your vehicle using u-bolts. It comes with two different sizes to help accommodate different sized crossbars. :34

Today on the Ford Focus Wagon we will be using the larger and wider u-bolts. The two halves of the bike rack are bolted together in the center. The bolt holes are slotted so you can adjust the bike rack to accommodate your roof rack. Along the tray itself are different bolt holes for the u-bolts. We are going to take our bike rack and center the front mounting plate over our front crossbar. We will feed our U-bolts up from the bottom and use our wing nuts on the top to tighten it down. 1:03

We are going to tighten down our u-bolts. We will alternate from left to right, and front to back to make sure that we have everything tightened down evenly. We are getting ready to tighten down our U-bolt on the rear. It is a little bit tight on our roof rack cross bar, so we are going to loosen that and shift it a little bit forward so we get the cross bar to line up. Next we will take our plate and slide it underneath our u-bolt, so we can clamp down onto our crossbar. We will tighten the wing nuts down until we get the u-bolt and clamp snug against our crossbar. Once we have our rear u-bolt snugged down, we are ready to mount our bike. 1:55

The standard 9 millimeter skewer is designed to work with most bikes. We will take our nut on this side and get everything snug and then reach around to the other side and close the skewer clamp. If it is loose, simply tighten down the nut on the other side and pull the clamp. It is good and snug, and our skewer has a secure bite on the front fork. Next, we will move to the rear of the vehicle and install our cam buckle straps to secure the rear wheel. Along the bottom of the bike rack are slots cut into it for the wheel strap. Just lift the tire and slide it through the slot on the other side. Pull it through and set the wheel back into the tray. Then we will fit our strap through the spokes on the wheel. Feed the loose end of the strap through the buckle and tighten everything down. That is it for the Swagman fork style roof mounted bike carrier, part number S64710.
