Today we are going to review part number EM51314 from Erickson Manufacturing. This is their double J hook ratchet strap. This strap is 1 inch wide, by 15 foot long and is rated for 1,000 lbs working load and 3,000 lbs break strength. A few features about this ratchet strap is using it to secure your cargo down to your trailer, cargo carrier, or pick up truck. It also provides a floating ring, which provides an easy attachment point. For example, if your trailer does not have a good tie down point where you want to put the cargo, you can use this sliding loop and hook to fasten to what ever you need. :39
Also, the tie down strap has a ratchet, so it makes it a lot easier to tie down stuff instead of just cinching it down using hand power alone. Instead of a single hook, this ratchet strap uses a double hook. Now we will show you the typical operation of a ratchet strap. First we will show you the floating hook feature. This hook right here slides where ever you need it, then you wrap this around where ever you can an cinch it down. You have this feature on both ends of the ratchet strap. Again, we will go ahead and show you the sliding hook feature so you can see that you can use it on something big or small. 1:15
What you can do is take your strap and wrap it around the object, take your loop and cinch it down that way too. We will go to the ratchet itself, it is pretty easy to use. It is in a collapsed position. All you have to do is pull on this latch right here in the middle and open it up. All ratchet straps work in this fashion. Then you want to do is open it up to where you have easy access to the slot inside the center here. Take the other end of the strap and slide it through the slot there. Then pull what you need, take out the slack, and pull down your ratchet and ratchet it tight. When youre done just put the handle back into place. When you want to remove the tie down, pull back on the center lever here and hold it flat. That loosens up the center part and you can pull your strap back out. 2:30
Now we will show you the ratchet in actual use on a trailer. We will load up our trailer, and then we will tie it down. We will use a ratchet for the typical application and then strap it down. Our trailer is not going to have an attachment point where we need it so this is where the sliding hook comes in handy. with that, that will finish our review of part number EM51314 from Erickson Manufacturing.
