Review of a Softride Dura Hitch Bike Rack

Today we are going to show you part number SR26247, the Softride Dura bike rack. Alright, we will start covering some of the features of this bicycle rack and again, we are showing you the 2 inch receiver version. You can tell you actually have two choices in installing it in your receiver hitch. You can keep it far away from the bumper or if you have plenty of room like in this combination we have, you can just go ahead and push it as far in as possible. And Dura bicycle rack does come standard with an anti-rattle bolt. It threads into the block on the inside of the bicycle rack. It threads into place. And what happens as it tightens down, it pulls the rack to one side of the hitch and keeps it from rattling. Once you get started you can use a 7/8 inch wrench. And the lock gets installed on top of it and comes with the bicycle rack also. 0:55

Now I will move on to the most unique and one-of-a-kind feature on this bicycle rack. It is the tilt. Again, when you tilt the bicycle rack, the arms stay level. All you have to do to initiate it is pull out this pin here. Give it a little push from the back side, let go of the lever and the pull simply comes down but the arms stay horizontal. The cradles themselves come standard with a nice thick strap that holds the bicycles in place. We will undo this one. Looking at the cradle itself, it is made out of soft rubber material so it is easy on the paint finish of your bicycle. And also it has groves on the inside too to again make room for cables on your bike that a ran below the top tube. You can see it is a very wide cradle so it will accept a variety of different frame thicknesses. And also, the cradles are kind of adjustable too. So if you need more space between two bikes, you can go ahead and take the spacer out. Take one behind it out. And stack two spacers here. That way you get extra room if you need it. 2:06

Every spot for a bike comes standard with an anti-sway cradle. This rotates up and out of the way so you can load the bike onto the cradle and then you put this back down onto the bike. And again, it has its own strap too, just like the ones on top, to hold everything into position. Alright, another couple of features about the arms themselves is that they are actually a little bit on the narrow side so it again will handle smaller bicycle frames too. Plus the arms are removable so it makes this bicycle rack a lot easier for storage. All you have to do is go ahead and push a button in the back and the whole arm slides right out. 2:47

Alright, lets go ahead and load some bikes. It makes it a lot easier on this bicycle rack due to the fact that you can load the bikes in a lower position too, where you can not do that with too many other bicycle racks out there. You can see here as we set the bike in place, the cables go right into the slots in the cradles. Alright we will swing down our anti-sway cradle, pull the strap around. Put our strap underneath the cable and pull it around, cinch that down, and then we will go ahead to our cradles on the top. In only a matter of seconds, this bike is secure and ready to go down the road. Remember what we were talking about earlier, about how the arms where on the narrow side of things? This is the reason why. You can put a kids bike on there. We will just install our anti-sway cradle. It has a short seat tube here but obviously we are going to have to go down to the down tube here to attach our anti-sway cradle to. But, everything else will stay the same. As you can see, it works just as well with the smaller frame bicycles out there. 4:24

We have our bikes strapped down. We can go ahead and get ready to head down the road. Just go ahead and push the whole assembly back up. The last thing that we need to do is secure the bikes. It comes with a built in security cable. You just pull it all the way out, route it underneath this part of the rack and you put it over your bikes, over the top. And then run it to the end when you can use your own favorite pad lock. It is not just plastic here. Underneath it is a welded on loop so put your lock through that and it is definitely not going anywhere. This bicycle rack is all steel construction and all of the parts are powder coated for corrosion resistance. That same type of construction is built throughout the rack. It is a very durable unit. And there you have it for part number SR26247 from Softride. 5:38
