Today we are going to review the trailer guardian double arm coupler lock system for a 2 1/ 2 inch ball mount platform. Part number 63236. We will also be reviewing the double arm coupler lock system for a three inch wide platforms part numbers 63238. The trailer guardian double armed coupler lock system is a unique system. It consists of two main pieces. The base which will mount over the platform of the ball mount, is attached with the trailer hitch ball and stays on the ball mount at all times. The double arm top plate inserts into the tubes on the base of the coupler lock system and the two pieces when ed together not only work as a theft deterrent system but also safe guards your trailer in case of an accidental decoupling. 00:48
The 63236 coupler lock system has a 2 1/ 2 inch wide base that will accommodate most of the class III two inched size ball mounts on the market. In the 63238 coupler lock system has a three inch wide base which will cover some of the more unique ball mounts on the market as well. Both systems have a one inch hole for one inch diameter hitch balls and also have a larger cut out at the bottom so that the lock washer and nut can rest firmly against the bottom of the ball mount. This system also offers two different ways of attaching the double armed top to the base itself. You can either use the two standard snapper pins that come with the kit itself. This is the preferred method if you are simply going to be using the coupler system to prevent the trailer from uncoupling from the tow vehicle. 01:46
If you also want to use a system to help as a theft deterrent you will want to replace one of the snapper pins with the pin and lock. Inserting the two pieces together is very simple. You just need to take and align the holes in the tubes on the base with the holes on the dual arms. Simply slide the pin through and put the clip over the top and then when using the lock simply the key turn it counter clock wise and remove it from the pin. Slide the pin through the corresponding holes with the lock and lock it into place. Attaching the base to the ball mount itself is just as easy. We want to just take our ball mount and make sure the ball is removed. We will take the base of our coupler lock system, slide it over the plaque form of the ball mount aligning the hole and the ball mount with the hole in the base of the system. You want the tubes on the base here to be forward in the tow vehicle. We can then take our hitch ball and again we need one with the one inch diameter shank, it into place. Slide on our lock washer and nut and torque the ball down to the specified recommendation. With the base of the coupler system now installed on our ball mount lets go over to our trailer and show you how to hook it up. 03:46
Using the trailer guardian system is extremely easy. What we want to do is take our preassemled guardian base on our ball mount and it into our trailer hitch. You can secure the trailer hitch to the vehicle using a standard pin and clip but for added protection we recommend using a hitch lock, one similar to the TR100 that we offer here at etrailer.com. Go ahead and couple our trailer onto our ball. Insert the vertical section of our trailer guardian into the tube of the base. You can set it down until it rests onto the top of the coupler and then you will raise it just slightly until the holes in the tube align with the holes in the vertical arms. And then the snapper pin into the holes. The holes on the other arm you can either use the other snapper pin if you are simply using the system to prevent the uncoupling of the trailer or we can use a locking pin if we are going to be using the system as a theft deterrent as well. Now you will notice that by not only using the lock to hold the ball mount into the vehicles trailer hitch receiver and also using the lock on the trailer guardian system that not only can we not remove the ball mount from the tow vehicle to steal the trailer but we also can not uncouple the ball from the ball mount. This is also helpful in the event that trailer coupler actually does not come uncoupled during towing. That will conclude the review of the trailer guardian coupler lock system part number 63236. This review will also apply to the coupler lock for a 3 inch wide ball mount part number 63238.
