Installation of a ToyLok Retractable Cable

All right, today we are going to show you part number TL2021-TL006-TL2021 from ToyLok. As you can see here we have got the parts laid out from the kit. On the right hand side you can see we have the ToyLok itself and the other pieces surrounding it are the install kit. To cover some of the pieces more in detail here, there is actually two different options to installing the bracket to the truck. This bracket itself will actually mount to the top of the rail and this part will be on the inside of the bed. Next is a rubber cover, like a sticker basically, that adheres to the back of the bracket so it protects the finish on the truck. Nice little detail there. This actually installs into the steak pocket of the truck bed itself. There is two options. One is a conventional rubber block and the metal plate on the bottom where the bolt goes through and expands the block so you cannot pull it back out.

The other one is a metal block and also the rubber cover to go on top of it. And basically it goes into the steak pocket and grabs the bottom of the edge of the bed and clamps into place. When we do our install we are actually going to use that system today. And finally we have got the hardware here of course. We have got the bolt that goes through the middle of it and the three bolts that attach the ToyLok to the bracket itself. It also includes two tools that are special fasteners themselves that have a special torques head with a little dot in the middle. That way you cannot use a conventional torques head bit to take it apart. So, it does come with special bits that allow you to do that so when you get this, put these bits in a very safe place so you do not lose them if you ever want to take it back off. We will begin by installing the rubber cover on to the inside of the bracket itself.

So it is adhesive so, just to give you an idea on how it fits, it fits around this block right here and then basically you will push into place. So you might want to do that a couple of times just to get a good idea before you permanently install it. Just go ahead and peel off the cover. Just work your way from the top, down. Okay, once we have that in place we can go ahead and install our ToyLok on to the bracket. Start off with the ToyLok itself, upside down and we will line up our bolt holes with the bracket. To give you an idea, this part will be pointing towards the cab and this part will be pointing towards the end of the bed. We want to install the washers. The 3/ 4 inch thick washers and thread them into place. And take the bit. The special bit. It uses a quarter inch drive so you can use a quarter inch driver on it and then torque everything down. When we start our attachment, it is going to use a metal block and rubber pad and the small Ranger we are using here. The block is a little bit long to fit in there with the bolt in place but luckily there is little pocket on the inside that actually everything can rest on. Just the bolt into that and pick it up. We will start off the rubber block with its own adhesive and we will go ahead and put that on top of the metal block. The rubber part is going to be facing up. We will just that in there and let it sit on the pocket. Go ahead and take the ToyLok. Lay it on top. Try to line it up with the block inside there. And then the bolt into place and then tighten it down with the special bit. And just bolt everything in place. That finishes our install part number TL2021-TL006 from ToyLok.
