Today we are going to be installing Hidden Hitch part number 70761 on a 2008 Kia Sedona van. This application will also apply for Draw-Tite hitch part number 75421. OK, we are underneath the vehicle now and we are actually looking at the drivers side frame rail. We are going to go ahead and point out the mounting location for the trailer hitch. You can see we have three existing weld nuts here at the bottom of the frame, and those are going to provide the three attaching points for the trailer hitch. We will be using the 12-mm bolts, along with the conical-tooth washer, in each of those locations on both the drivers side and the passengers side frame rails.
And then, over here on the passengers side, we also are going to be using the same three weld nuts, just like we saw on the drivers side. But, as you can see, our exhaust is in the way over here from us attaching to the frame of the vehicle. So, we are going to need to remove that - we are going to need to get that out of the way. To do that, we are going to remove it off of its rear-most hanger. That hanger is actually bolted to the bottom of the frame with this black bracket here. There are two bolts that are holding it on. So we can go ahead and remove those bolts, and that should give us enough room to get the exhaust out of the way and put the hitch up into position. So, we are going to do that first, and then we are going to need to clean the weld nuts out, as well.
Any vehicle that has seen at least one winter is going to have some road grime and rust built up in the weld nuts. When we go in to clean out the weld nuts, what we want to do is go ahead and spray them down with a spray lubricant, like a WD-40. Then we take a wire brush of any type - what I am going to be using is a basic battery terminal cleaner - and take the lid off of that, and you have got a thick wire brush on the top. And you just take that and just run it into the weld nuts and spin it around a few times. And that will help to loosen up any road grime and rust and debris that may be up in there. That is going to make getting the bolts started and up into position a lot easier. Spray it down again, and that will help to release all the road grime in there. You want to do that at all six mounting locations, and once those are thoroughly cleaned, we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position.
OK, when putting the hitch up into position, you can actually start by putting the hitch in place. And you can actually rest the arm on the passengers side on the exhaust while you get the drivers side hooked up. As you can see, I have got my first bolt in here on the passengers side. If you look at our alignment on the forward two holes, they are off just a little bit in getting lined up. And that tells me that the arms got flexed in just a little bit, which, from time to time, will happen. But it is a fairly simple fix. You have just got to take a crowbar and slide it in, in between the well and the hitch, just a little bit, just enough to get the holes aligned.
Then we will go ahead and put the rest of our bolts in position. And by doing the third one first, that will automatically pull the other holes in line. Now that I have got all my bolts into place, I am just going to go ahead and snug them up with a ratchet, and then we will go back through and torque them down. You want to check with your directions to verify what the appropriate torque rating is for each individual bolt. And now that we have got all our bolts torqued down, we just want to make sure that we put our exhaust back up on its hanger, and our installation will be complete. That will conclude the installation of Hidden Hitch part number 70761 on a 2008 Kia Sedona.
