Today on this 2010 Toyota Camry we will be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 36416. This installation will also apply to Hidden Hitch part number 90152. Okay in preparation for our hitch install we first want to remove the spare tire out of the spare tire well here in the trunk. We will be later on drilling two holes through the spare tire well at attaching points. Now we will go under the vehicle and go ahead and lower the exhaust down as well. To remove the vehicle exhaust we want to remove the exhaust from the three rear most rubber hangers. We have got two here at the very end of the vehicle right near the exhaust and then one here at the forward side of the muffler. You can go ahead and just unbolt these hangers from the frame as opposed to having to removing them off of the rubber.
With the exhaust lowered we want to go ahead and move the fascia tabs here and here that are attached to the trunk well that allow the cross tube of the hitch to stick up behind the bumper here. Okay, and then over here on the driver side frame rail we want to remove this reinforcing bracket here at the very end of the frame rail attached to the bumper flange here. There are three bolts holding that bracket into place. Now that we have got the bracket removed we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. We are going to attach the hitch by the two weld nuts on each side here at the end of the frame rail using the 10 millimeter bolts with a conical tooth washer. We are going to be attaching that the same on both sides. Once we get it up into place we are going to use the hitch as a template and drill both the two holes into the trunk well. Just note how the hitch on it straddles the flange here. You will also notice that there is a cut out here in the hitch so that we will be able to reattach the fascia tab once we are done. 02:45
With the hitch up in position now I can go ahead and drill my holes out. Okay, now we will go up in the trunk well and our bolts down. And now that we are up inside the trunk well you can see the two holes that we have drilled from the bottom up. The hardware for these attaching points are going to be the large block and the hex bolt that we are just going to just simply down in through. We are also going to be putting a second spacer in between the hitch and the trunk well underneath as well. Again we want to make sure we place the other spacer in between the hitch and spare tire well from the underneath side. Before ping the hardware down we want to go ahead and remove the foam rubber material that is covering the holes here. We want to cut back and up a bit to where our block has metal to metal contact with the trunk well. You can do this a number of ways. You can take a scraper and scrape it away. You can probably use a utility knife as well. I am actually going to take a rotary tool and put a sanding blade on there and just kind of run it down and get rid of it that way. Okay now we will go back underneath the vehicle, attach the hardware to those hex bolts, and we will go ahead and torque those bolts down. To these hex bolts we are going to be fastening it with the lock washer and hex nut. Now we are going to go ahead and torque our bolts down. You want to check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. With all of the bolts torqued down we just want to make sure we put our exhaust back up on its hangers and our spare tire back in the spare tire well and our installation will be complete. That will conclude the installation of Draw-Tite hitch part number 36416 on a 2010 Toyota Camry. 05:16
