Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2009 Chevy Silverado

Today, on this 2009 Chevy Silverado, we are going to be installing hitch part number 13322 from Curt. Okay, we are underneath the vehicle and the first thing that we want to do is go ahead and remove the spare tire and get it out of the way. Looking at the passenger side frame rail, you can see here at the end that we have an existing 14mm bolt that we are going to be removing. That will provide the rear most attachment point for the trailer hitch on both sides. And just forward of that we have an existing hole that will provide our forward most attaching point. And again that is going to be the same on both sides. We are going to be using the ½ carriage bolt and block assembly. Lay that up inside the frame and it down through the hole. Then here at the bumper we also have two existing weld nuts that are also going to provide stabilizing attaching points for the hitch. :46

So, the first thing that we are going to do is remove the 14mm bolts from the end of the frame. Then next we are going to put the carriage bolt and block assemblies into the frame. Now we are going to hang the hitch up by those carriage bolts using the flange nuts provided in the installation kit. We are just going to hand tighten for the time being until we get the other bolts into place. 1:15

Okay, then next I am going to go ahead and install the 14mm bolts with the conical tooth washers into the weld nuts into the bumper. You may find on some of these newer models that you will get some interference from the flange here on the back side of the bumper when trying to put the hitch up. If that is the case, you can go ahead and trim this out a little bit. 1:35

And then finally, we will install the new 14 mm bolts with conical tooth washers into the weld nuts here at the bottom of the frame. Okay and with all of the bolts into place, we want to go ahead and torque them down. You want to check with the instructions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. Okay and now that we have all of the bolts torqued down we just want to make sure that we put our spare tire back up and our installation will be complete. This will conclude the installation of hitch part number 13322 on a 2009 Chevy Silverado.
