Today on this 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander we are going to install part number 87444 from Hidden Hitch. This will also apply to part number 75555 from Draw-Tite. First thing we are going to do is lower our muffler so we have access to the frame where our hitch will mount up. There are three muffler hangers that we have to spray down with some lubricant that will help make the removal a little bit easier. :19
Next what we are gong to do is put a strap around the exhaust to keep it from falling down too fast. Okay, we will start taking off the exhaust hangers. We are going to have to use a pry bar to remove the muffler hangers. Now we have our hangers loose we can go ahead and lower the exhaust. There is a strap to control its descent. Its going to use these three holes right here that are already threaded. On the driver's side it is the same story. And since it is a little bit older vehicle you might want to take some time out and go ahead and clean up the threads. :58
First we are going to spray it down to get the loose stuff out. Then we will run our bolt in, just get it started. As you can see we have some junk coming out already. I am going to run it out a few times with a tool of course, until you can run it all the way through the nut. At this point, with our threads cleaned out, we can go ahead and start installing the hitch onto the frame. What we are going to do is put the passenger side of the hitch on top of the muffler, let it sit there, it will hold that side for use while we do the driver's side first. Okay, I have one started lets go ahead over to the passenger side and do that. 1:29
Next we are going to do the hardware for our tie-down loop. What is going to happen is the bolts are going to go through here, go through this plate on this side of the tow loop and on the inside of the tow loop, in between the hitch it is going to get the square spacer and two more quarter inch flat spacers. Now that we have our bolt through we will go ahead and put our lock washer and nut on there. Everything is sitting at an angle right now and that is because the hitch is still loose. 1:53
So what we will do next is snug down the bolts that go through the frame, and then we will come back and snug this down. At this point now all our bolts are snugged down and we can go ahead and torque them down as specified in the instructions. With our hitch installed we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust to the rubber hangers. And with that, that finishes our install of part number 87444 from Hidden Hitch.
