Today on this 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup we will be installing the Valley hitch part number V82861. We are at the back of the vehicle, looking at the step bumper. The center most attachment point for our trailer hitch is actually going to be the opening for the hitch ball here on the bumper. The large 3/ 4 inch bolt along with a flat washer, and we are going to insert it down through the opening for the hitch ball. That is actually going to thread in to a weld nut that is built in to the trailer hitch for this attachment point. :30
And then for the forward most attaching points for the trailer hitch we are going to be attaching to the clean cross member here that is running across from one frame rail to the other. You can see on the back side of it you have two large oblong holes here. Now I am going to leave the 3/ 4 inch hex bolt hand tight for the time being until we get the other bolts in place. Go ahead and feed the bolt leader through cross tube here, route that all the way up. Then we will take and put the block onto the bolt leader first, and then take the carriage bolt and wrap the threads of the bolt leader around the carriage bolt. 1:09
Then we will take the other end of the bolt leader and pull these two through into place. Go ahead and unwrap the bolt leader from the bolt. After that, attach the flanged hex nut. Then we want to repeat that procedure for the other hole as well, and then we will go through and torque our bolts down. With all the hardware in place we can go ahead and start torquing our bolts down. You want to start by torquing the 3/ 4 inch hex bolt here through the ball attaching hole, and then we will go back and torque the carriage bolts after that. You want to check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each individual bolt. Okay, with all the bolts torqued down our installation is complete. This will conclude the installation of Valley hitch part number V82861 on a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 series.
