Today on this 2004 Chrysler Town and Country with stow and go seating, we are going to be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 75305. And this installation will also apply to Hidden Hitch part number 87719. Before we get started with our hitch installation, we are going to go ahead and show you a couple of the final install dimensions which will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little bit easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 12-1/4 inches. And from the center of the pin hole, to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to measure approximately 6-1/2 inches. Alright, now we will go ahead and move on to our hitch installation. 0:33
We are starting off underneath the vehicle here and we are first looking at the driver side frame rail. We are going to go ahead and point out the mounting holes that we are going to be using to attach the hitch to the vehicle. If you look here to the rear of the frame, you can see we have this spring mount attached directly to the frame. And at the very end of the frame there are three bolts here in a line. We are going to be removing the two outside ones and reusing those as the two rearmost attaching points for the trailer hitch. If you follow forward on the frame, just behind the spring mount, there is a bolt right here. We are going to be removing it and actually reusing it as well and that will be our forward most attaching point for the hitch. And that is going to be the same not only on the driver side but on the passenger side as well. So the first thing we are going to do is go ahead and remove the three attaching bolts that we just referred to. And again we are just going to repeat that for the passenger side of the vehicle as well and then we will go ahead and put the hitch up into position. 1:29
Now, putting the hitch up in position is a little bit tricky. There is an order of operations that you are going to want to abide by to ensure that you clear the springs. To do this, what you want to do is just go ahead and raise the hitch up into position. And you are going to want to pivot one side of the hitch as far forward towards the axle as possible. And then you can go ahead and pivot the other side into position. At the forward attaching point, where we had the larger bolt, we are going to add the included block onto the bolt. And this is actually going to sit on the bottom of the hitch and attach to the frame. We want to keep the block perpendicular to the vehicle when we tighten it up. 2:17
With all of the hardware in place and tightened down, we are going to go back through now and torque each one of the bolts. You want to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each of the bolts. And then with all of our bolts torqued down, our installation will be complete. That will conclude the installation of Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75305, on a 2004 Chrysler Town and Country.
