Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 70181 on a 2003 Ford Ranger. The first thing we want to do is lower the spare tire and get it out of the way. OK, looking at the passengers side frame rail, we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting location for the hitch. There are three existing holes in each side of the vehicle which are going to provide the mounting location. There is one here at the bottom of the frame, and two on the side of the frame one here, and one here as well. The first thing we are going to do, were going to go ahead and put the hardware in the locations on both sides of the vehicle at the bottom of the frame and put the hitch up into position. We can hold them in place with a nut onto this bolt. OK, and with the two bolts loosely installed at the bottom of the frame, we can go ahead and put ones in the side of the frame next.
OK, and with the bolts up into position, we want to go ahead and torque them down now. We are going to start with the bolts in the bottom of the frame and torque those first, and then go to the ones that are on the side of the frame next. The torque rating for these bolts is going to be 75 foot-pounds, as listed in the instructions. With the bolts torqued down, the installation is complete. You want to make sure you go ahead and put your spare tire back up after you are done. And this concludes the installation of hitch part number 70181on a 2003 Ford Ranger.
