Chevrolet Express Van Trailer Hitch

Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2000 Chevrolet Express Van

Today on this 2000 Chevrolet Express full size van we are going to install part number 82580 from Hidden Hitch. This will also apply to part number 41521 from Draw-Tite. We will show you where the hitch mounts up on the vehicle. It is pretty easy. Use the existing holes that are already in the frame. Use this hole, this hole, and this hole. This is identical on both sides of the vehicle. Right now we are looking at the driver side. We will install the hardware. On these two bolt holes right here it is going to get the small two inch by 1-1/ 2 inches square plate. It is going to get the carriage bolt and in through the plate and into the hole. These two are going to be identical. This hole as you can see gets a bigger plate. It is three inches by 1-1/ 2 inches. It is going to install in this hole. Do the same process back on the passenger side. 00:57

Now we can lift the hitch in position. Just be careful to not push the bolts back into the frame. It is a good idea to have an extra set of hands at this point. Now we have our nuts and washers installed so we can snug it down and then torque it down as specified in the instructions. Now we have got our hitch torqued down. What we will do next is lower the vehicle and we will give you some measurements on the hitch in relation to the ground and the bumper. Now we will give you a couple of hitch measurements. The first one is from the top of the hitch opening down to the ground on this particular vehicle is going to be 17-1/ 2 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is going to be 4 inches.
