Today we are going to install part number 41546 from Draw-Tite, and we are going to install this on a 1993 Ford Econoline 150. To make it easier to install the hitch, we will lower the spare tire. The hitch is going to mount up on these existing holes here and here. Back here will be a hole we will have to drill out. So that is going to require us to get the exhaust moved out of the way so we can drill a hole. And basically it is going to be identical on the drivers side.
All right, our first step is go ahead and lower the exhaust. We are going to undo the bolt up here and then just push it out of the way when we get ready to drill it out. Now we can go ahead and start installing out hardware, starting with the holes closest to the bumper. We will get the flat washer - the heavy, flat washer - to go through the hole. And then next will be a big, special washer that goes up like that when the hitch is installed. And then, of course, the conical-tooth washer and the nut. OK, and we will do the same thing on the passengers side.
OK, at this point we can go ahead and start hanging the hitch from the frame. It might be a good idea to have a couple of extra hands when you have the extra washer going in between. Now, we left this intentionally loose so we have more room to work the rest of our hardware in. All right, this small block goes on top of the frame. The big, square block will go in between the frame and the hitch itself. Then we can install the conical-tooth washer and nut. OK, and then we do the same thing on the passengers side. And what you want to do now, with the bolts still loose, is move the hitch left and right to get it centered as best as possible. And when you have that done, go ahead and snug down the bolts.
With the bolts snugged down, that will hold the hitch in place while we go ahead and drill out our last two holes. That way, the hitch will act as a template. We are starting off with a 1/4-inch bit for a pilot hole and then we will follow it up with a 1/2-inch bit. All right, now we will actually loosen this back up so we have some room to put the plates that go in between the frame of the vehicle and the hitch. Now we will put our block in that goes between the frame - put our block in between the hitch and the frame, and then a block and square bolt for the carriage. Pull it from the top down. Then put in our conical-tooth and our nut. Repeat the same process on the passengers side. All right, then you can go ahead and snug the bolts down once more. And then we will go ahead and give them their final torque as specified in the instructions. All right, once you have your hitch torqued down, you can go ahead and reattach the exhaust. Once we are finished torquing down the bolts, we should put the spare tire back up, which will complete this install. All right, that is it for part number 41546 from Draw-Tite on a 1993 Ford Econoline 150.
