Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2009 Ford Flex

Today we are going to be installing part number 75656 on a 2009 Ford Flex. We are up underneath the vehicle now, on the drivers side frame rail, and as you can see, the exhaust is on this side. And the hanger for the exhaust is actually being held on with these two bolts that are in the frame here. Those are actually the same two bolts and weld nuts that we are going to use to install the hitch. So the first thing we want to do is to go ahead and remove these bolts and bring the hanger down.

With the two bolts taken out of the frame, we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. We are going to go ahead and remove the hanger here off of the rubber bracket. It is going to make it a little bit easier to reinstall it once the hitch is up into position. And, as you can see, with this removed from the rubber hanger, it will be a lot easier to reinstall once the hitch is up into place. One thing I do want to mention before we put the hitch up into position. Over here on the drivers side, you can see that there is this piece of metal tab here that is actually coming straight down off the side of the frame. The hitch actually has a cut out in it to go around that metal tab so you will notice it when you go to fit the hitch up into position that that metal tab should go into that opening in the hitch itself. Now we are going to go ahead and install the hitch.

Now you can see here on the drivers side, I have got one bolt in and I have also got the hanger that is here at the bottom side of the hitch as well. Once again, we want to put two bolts in both the drivers and passengers sides. OK, with all the bolts loosely installed into place, we want to go ahead and torque them down. The torque rating for the bolts is going to be 68 foot-pounds. Once the bolts are torqued down, the only thing left to do is to put the exhaust back onto the hanger. And with the exhaust back up into place, your installation is complete. And this will conclude the installation of part number 75656 on a 2009 Ford Flex.
