All right, today we are going to install part number V82683 from Valley, and we are going to install this on our 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan. The hitch bolts go onto the frame using existing fasteners and it is going to use these three on the frame right here. Those are bolts that actually hold the bumper bracket in place. And when you take those out, be careful you do not move the bumper around too much, because the holes will come out of alignment. And the same set of holes are going to be on the other side, on the passengers side, just above the muffler. All right, on the passengers side, the same three bolts are there. However, it is behind the muffler here.
Our first step is actually to go ahead and lower the muffler. And there is a bracket right behind the muffler here. And then there is another bracket toward the front of the vehicle, right here. And possibly, if you need the extra room to lower the exhaust, there is another one on the muffler here that you may want to release to give you some extra room that way, too. All right, we have got our exhaust lowered now, and you can see the three bolts a lot easier: one, two and three. All right, let us go ahead and start undoing the bolts. When you take these bolts out, this whole assembly with the brackets in it will actually tilt up that way, and this is metal right here. When you loosen those bolts this steel crossmember will actually come down a little bit. To hold it in place, there is like little tabs behind the bumper fascia here. We actually stuck a socket in there just to kind of help tilt it up a little bit. And it helps keep the threads a little more closer to the holes inside the frame.
At this point we can go ahead and install the hitch. And it is good to have an extra set of hands. This is kind of awkward. We will start off by putting it over the exhaust first, and then we will go back over to the passengers side and undo those bolts. Undo the bolts that are closest to the bumper since that bolt is kind of closest to the frame to begin with, so we will do those. Now if the van has air conditioning lines, you are going to run into this problem right here, where the hitch is hitting the air conditioning lines. What you have got to do is basically take this hitch and slide it underneath these lines. You are going to tilt the hitch down and slide it over these lines and then pick up the drivers side. If you can, you can get a little bit of movement out of these hoses very gently just a little bit, just enough to where you can put the hitch in there. This is the hitch in its proper position. Below these lines here, the hitch is hitting above the lines and touching the frame. None of the lines are actually being pinched by anything. At this point, we can go ahead and install the rest of the bolts.
What we will do first is go ahead and tighten down the bolt closest to the bumper. That way, that will bring the bracket inside, a little bit closer to the frame, so it will be easier to line the bolts up with. Now you just want to snug it up you still will need to move it around a little bit. And you can actually use a screwdriver and just gently move it as you need it, as long as you have it loose. Once you get all your bolts started, then you can go ahead and snug them down into place. Make sure you have plenty of clearance for your air hoses, and then we will give them their final torque. Now at this point, we can give the bolts their final torque, as specified in the instructions. All right, and just make sure you have plenty of clearance between the hitch and your muffler, and then you are good to go. All right, that covers our install of part number V82683 from Valley on our 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan.
