Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2009 Buick Enclave

Today on this 2009 Buick Enclave, we will be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 75528. This hitch installation will also apply to Hidden Hitch part number 87435. Okay before we get started with our hitch installation we need to do a couple things in preparation. First we have already lowered the spare tire to get it out of the way. On the Enclave here we have got this rear fascia door that our hitch opening is actually going to come out through so we want to go ahead and remove this by simply turning the thumb screws here at the bottom of the door and pulling it away. We are going to go ahead and also need to lower our dual exhaust down. There are four hangers that we are going to need to lower the exhaust off of in order for us to have enough room to get the hitch into place. We have got two in here on the inboard side.

One here. And one here. And there is also an outboard one on each one of the exhaust tubes. Spray the studs down with a spray lubricant like a WD-40. That will make the removal of the hanger much easier. And then we can just take a pry bar and and slide it in and slide the hanger right off. Before we remove the final hanger we want to make sure we go ahead and support our exhaust tube here in the middle. I am just going to use the basic ratchet strap to support the exhaust tube because once we remove it off all four hangers it could fall down and possibly damage your exhaust. Here at the bottom of the frame you can see we have got two existing weld nuts and we are going to be using the new hardware provided with our installation kit to attach the hitch to those weld nuts there. And it is going to be the same on the passenger side as well.

We will be attaching the hitch to the frame using the 12 millimeter bolts and the conical tooth washers. And then here at the bottom of the bumper we have got two attaching points where we just removed that fascia door. To attach the hitch to those holes we are going to be using the handle nut as well as the 1/ 2 inch bolt and the conical tooth washer. Before we put the hitch up we will go ahead and manipulate the handle nut so they are ready to go. Get those handle nuts in place and we can go ahead and put the hitch up in position. We want to make sure we go up and over the exhaust on both sides. You want to make sure before we put our hex bolts and do our handle nuts that we place the small spacer in between the hitch and the frame. Now we are just going to go back through and tighten the bolts down. You will find the torque ratings on the directions included with the installation kit. Now that we have got the bolts torqued down, we can actually go ahead and flatten these handle nuts out. Then we just want to go ahead and put our exhaust back up on its hangers and then replace our spare tire and then our installation will be complete. And that will conclude the installation of hitch part number 75528 on a 2009 Buick Enclave.
