Today on this 2008 Toyota Rav4 we are going to install part number 36490 from Draw-Tite. The first thing we need to do to get ready is get underneath the vehicle and we are going to remove this shipping hook or tie down hook from the vehicle frame. This is going to come off and stay off. Then we will have two existing threads on this side and it is going to be identical on the passenger side however, there will be no tie down hook. Now since we took the bolts out the threads are going to be pretty clean but it is going to be a different story on the passenger side. 00:36
What we will do next is clean out the threads there. To clean out the threads what we are going to do is spray it down with some lubricant first and then we are going to use a battery terminal brush to clean out the threads. In this case we are going to be using part number DW00254. I am going to do it a few times. Once you have it done then you can run the bolt in and out and you are good to go. We are going to lift the hitch into position. It would be a good idea to have an extra set of hands to help hold you up while you line it up with the frame and then install the bolts. After we get the first two bolts installed then we can install the rest of our hardware. 01:09
With our hardware installed then we can snug down the bolts. At this point we can torque down the bolts as specified in the instructions. The next thing we will do is lower the vehicle and put it on the ground and we will get you some hitch measurements from there on out. From the top of the hitch opening down to the ground on this particular vehicle is about 12-1/ 4 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is about 4 inches. With that, that will finish our install of part number 36490 from Draw-Tite.
