Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Nissan Murano
Today we are going to install part number 87486 from Hidden Hitch on our 2008 Nissan Murano. This also applies to part number 75647 from Draw-Tite. The first step we need to do is go ahead and remove this tie-down bracket. We will take this off and it will stay off completely. Next we have to lower the exhaust top away. And there are three rubber hangers that we have to remove. There is one here, right behind the bumper here, and there is one on the other side of this bracket tube. These two, and then on the passengers side. And on the passengers side there is one that needs to be removed also. All right, we spray down this hanger right here, and that makes it a little bit easier to push off the exhaust system. Now we move over to the passengers side. Right, now that will give us a little more working room to install the hitch.
Next, this valance panel has to come down. What we have to do is take out these two plastic rivets: one here, and here. And behind this valance are four nuts that you have to take off and then this panel will come completely off. OK, at this point we can go ahead and install our hitch. We have to pull the muffler down just a little bit more and then we can install the bolts that go into the frame. And this will require an extra set of hands. All right, once you have the two bolts just holding the hitch in place you can see where it is going to sit at on the vehicle. You might want to take some time at this point to go ahead and kind of move it left to right to center it as best as you can. Then we will go ahead and install the rest of the bolts and snug them up.
Now you might want to take a second to double-check and make sure you have it centered the way you want it, and then we will give the bolts their final torque. You always want to to torque the bolts to the recommended settings that are included in the instructions. You notice this bolt will be a 10-millimeter, compared to the 12-millimeters that are up here. These do have a specific torque specification that is separate from the rest. OK, at this point we can go ahead and reinstall our exhaust back onto the hangers right here. These simply slide right back on. All right, to reattach the bottom of the bumper cover here we need to zip-tie it to the hitch. And the kit comes complete with a real nice zip-tie with a nice button on the end to keep things nice and neat. Simply thread it through. And it helps keep things at a 90-degree angle so you can grab it from the back side here. And pull it back through itself like a buckle. And thread it through the hole, too. And snip this off and you get a nice, clean finish. All right, that completes our installation of part number 87486 from Hidden Hitch.
