Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Honda Odyssey

Today we are going to be installing hitch part number 13561 from Curt on n a 2008 Honda Odyssey. All right, we are underneath the vehicle here, and we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting locations for the hitch itself. You can see there are existing weld nuts here on the bottom of the frame. The ones that we actually are going to be using are the rearmost one here, the next one and then the one way down here at the other end of the frame, as well. And then over here on the passengers side of the frame, again, you can see one, two, three existing weld nuts. Over here on the passengers side we do have the exhaust that sits in the way. So the first thing we are going to do is to go ahead and lower it down off of this hanger here, so that will give us a little bit more room to get the bolts into the frame.

We will see if that gives us a little more room to work with here. With the exhaust hanger off, we can go ahead and put the hitch up into position. Putting the hitch up, go ahead and rest the passengers side arm on the exhaust while you mount some bolts in on the drivers side. It will make it a little easier. On some older models, it may be necessary to clean out the weld nuts at the bottom of the frame before you actually put the bolts in, if you have got a lot of corrosion, or even a little bit of rust in there. Take a spray lubricant and like a wire brush and go ahead and get in there and get those cleaned out. But, this being a newer model, I did not have to do that. Looking here on the drivers side of the frame, you can see that there are two holes at the back end of the hitch, and that is actually on both sides of the vehicle. On 2005 and newer models, you are going to want to use the inboard-sided hole, and that will align with the weld nut. On 1999 through 2004, you are going to go ahead and use this hole. OK, and with all the bolts in the frame, we can go ahead and tighten them down.

They are slightly tightened down now, and we want to go ahead and torque the bolts to their specified torque ratings. And you want to check with your instructions to verify the appropriate torque rating for each particular bolt. And when you have the bolts torqued down here on the passengers side, you want to make sure you put your exhaust back on the hanger. And with the bolts properly torqued down, that will conclude the installation of hitch part number 13561 on the 2008 Honda Odyssey.
