Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Today we are going to be installing Curt hitch, part number 13591, on a 2005 Chevy Equinox. The first thing that we want to do on the Equinox is go ahead and remove this center section here which is going to allow for clearance to get the bolts mounted in the bumper flange at the bottom here. We will pull out these pop rivets, one on each side. OK, with the cover removed, you can see the 2 mounting points at the bottom of the bumper being here. There are 2 weld nuts which we are going to use the existing end 12 fasteners that are going to go in to those points there. OK, then again on the outside of the frame rails here, you can see the 2 attaching points. There is a weld nut here and one above it as well, and that is going to be the same for both sides of the frame. And now, we are going to go ahead and put the hitch up into position, using these attaching points. This hitch will actually be easier to get up into place if you have an extra set of hands because it is a bit awkward.

OK, now that we have the bolts loosely installed in all of the positions here, I would go ahead and tighten the bolts up. Go ahead and tighten the ones at the bottom of the bumper first and then the ones on the side of the frame second. And go ahead and repeat that for the other side. OK, with all of the bolts hand tightened down, we are going to go ahead and torque them to their specified torque rating. All of these end 12 bolts that are in the frame get torqued to 62 foot pounds. OK, with the hitch up into place and all of the bolts torqued down, we can go ahead and replace the cover that we removed earlier, right above the receiver tube. And this will conclude hitch installation of part number 13591 for a 2005 Chevy Equinox.

Wow... I placed an order online at 3:05 PM, and received notice that it had shipped at 5:15 PM the same afternoon. A little over two hours from "order placed" to "order shipped." That must be some kind of record! I am a first-time customer...... With this kind of service, I'll be back!
