Today on this 2002 Chevrolet Venture we are going to install part number 87410 from Hidden Hitch. First off we are going to show you where the hitch mounts on the vehicle. We are looking at the driver side here which is going to use two factory attachment points. It is going to be using this hole here and this hole here. They are already threaded but it is a good idea to clean out the threads especially on older vehicles because of the dirt and grime that will get in there. Also towards the rear of the vehicle this area right here there will be a hole drilled out for the hitch. We will go ahead and move over to the passenger side now.
Again it will use these two attachment points, we will temporarily lower the exhaust and there will be another hole drilled here and another drilled out further back. Starting off we will go ahead and clean out the threads in the frame here. We will spray it down with some lubricant. Once you have the threads sprayed down let it sit for a little bit, then run your bolt in. You just want to run it in a few threads then back it off. Just keep running it in a little more until it stops, then back it off again and spray it down and your bolt too. Keep doing that until you can run the bolt all the way through. Back to the passenger side we will go ahead and take down our exhaust bracket.
All right at this point you can go ahead and start hanging the hitch from the frame using the existing fasteners that are in the frame itself. Now we have our hitch hung up here, now lets just temporarily snug down the bolts and put the hitch where we want it. All right lets go ahead and drill out our 1/ 4 pilot holes and follow up it with a 1/ 2 bit. Next we will go ahead and install our hardware towards the bumper on the vehicle. Whats going to happen is the handle nut is going to go inside the frame and we will install the lock washer and bolt. Go up from the bottom. Whats going to happen is take our handle nut and actually bend the handle to whichever way we need it. We are going to stick it in the access hole up here and then run our bolt into it. We need the handle nut to hold the nut into position while we thread it in. Go on the passenger side and do the same thing again. All right next what we will do is go ahead and fish wire our block and our bolt in this access hole, that we just drilled out. We will use the fish wire that comes with the kit, this is the hole we are going to use, back out, put our plate in here, thread our bolt and pull all that back through. And on this attachment point, depending on the models, long base or short base, you will actually have to use additional spacers inside the frame or additional spacers between the frame and the hitch. So you might want to double check your instructions to make sure.
We are just going to put two more plates on the bottom and attach a nut and lock washer. Now since we have two bolts holding the hitch up into place we can take these two original bolts back down and put our muffler bracket back into place. All right now that we have all the bolts started we can go ahead and snug down the bolts. And now we can go ahead and torque down the bolts as specified in the instructions. And that finishes our install of part number 87410 from Hidden Hitch.
