Today on this 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Full Size Van we are going to install part number V81970 from Valley. Next we will go ahead and show you where the hitch mounts up on the van. And it is kind of easy on this one ton, so I will have plenty of room to work in. We are looking at the drivers-side frame rail and we are going to use this hole here, here, and here. And on the passenger side there are just going to be two holes used. This on and this one. What we are going to do is install our hardware using this access hole here. The kit comes with a wire pull, what we are going to do is take our wire, put it through the hole we are going to use and out the access hole. We will slide our block on first and then thread on the bolt, we can go ahead and push that in actually. And just pull it on through. And it will be the same thing on both sides.
In addition to the frame mount it is also going to use this bolt hole on the bumper bracket and this one too. At this point we can go ahead and lift the hitch up, it is a good idea to have an extra set of hands on this one because it is kind of wide and awkward to get up there. So have one person hold one side while the other person gets the bolt started. When we install the nuts we want to leave it loose because we still have to move around the hitch and get some more hardware in onto our bumper.
Okay and we will go ahead and install our hardware here, and this is why we leave the hitch loose so we can move it around and get the bolt into place. And put a conical tooth washer behind it and the lock nut. Now that we have all the bolts started we can snug the bolts down. And it is the same thing on both sides. Then go ahead and torque them. And there you have it for part number V81970 from Valley.
