Chevrolet Tahoe Trailer Hitch

Installation of a Trailer Hitch on a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Today on this 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe we are going to be installing part number V81990 from Valley. The first thing we are going to do is show you our mounting locations. We are going to be taking out the bumper bolt on both sides of the vehicle. We are going to be using that bolt to install our hitch. The other one is going to be the forward most hole. It is going to be the same for the both the passenger and driver sides of the vehicle. We are going to be installing hardware into the stocked factory bumper itself. 00:28

The first thing we are going to do is take out our existing bumper bolts and then we will clean our existing holes for our hardware to go into. We are just going to take a lubricant and take the wire brush and just thread it in and clean out all of the gunk. Then we are going to put our hitch in position. It is probably best to have a second set of hands to help hold up the hitch while you install your stock bumper bolts back in to their positions. 00:54

Now we will install the hardware that connects the hitch to the factory bumper. The hardware we are going to be using to install our hitch to our bumper is going to be the 14 millimeter by two inch bolts along with the flat washer and lock washer. Now that we have those installed we are going to install our hardware that is going to go on the forward most hole. Now with this hardware we are going to be taking our square hole plates and our carriage bolts and we are just going to it in like this. Then we are going to take it through the big hole in the side of your frame and we are just going to it in position. We are going to do the same thing on both sides. Then we are going to be taking our conical tooth washer and locking flange nut and putting it into position. 01:39

Now that we have all of our hardware in position we are going to tighten down and torque as specified in the instructions. Now we are going to take a couple of measurements for you. From the center of the hitch pin hole out to the edge of the bumper is going to be approximately 3 inches. From the ground to the top of the receiver tube opening is going to be approximately 20 inches. This will complete the install of this 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe for part number V81990 from Valley.
