Installation of a Front Mount Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Heavy Duty

Today on this 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Heavy Duty we are going to be installing front mount hitch part number 31109 from Curt. We are here looking at the passenger side frame rail. And you can see from the bottom we have got an existing bolt, an existing access hole, and then an existing regular sized hole as well. We are going to be fishing through the carried bolt block through this hole. We are going to pull it down into position using the fish wire that is provided with the installation kit. We are also going to be using this larger bolt here on the side of the frame. We are going to be removing it and replacing it with the new one that is provided in the installation kit. That is going to provide our vertical attachment point for the trailer hitch.

We are going to start by removing the nut here that is holding our bolt on to the tow hook and pop that out and put the new hardware in place. It may help to go ahead and loosen this bolt up as well on both sides. That will help to let us remove this hex bolt that is in the way here and give us a little bit of room to maneuver the tow hook up and out a little bit. Okay with the vertical bolt removed we can go ahead and fish our carriage bolt block into place. We are going to be using the 1/ 2 inch bolt leader that is provided with our installation kit. And feed it through the hole that we are going to be pulling the block and bolt down through and back out through the access hole. We will start by feeding the block on to the bolt leader and then wrapping the threads of the bolt with the bolt leader itself. Just pull it in through the hole. We can go ahead and put the hitch up.

We are going to be attaching these carriage bolts using the 1/ 2 inch flange nuts that were provided with the installation kit. Next we are going to go ahead and put into place the new 1/ 2 inch by 4 1/ 2 inch hex bolts. We also want to install the flat washer here. And we are going to take and feed from the outboard side through to the inboard side where we will attach it with another 1/ 2 inch nut. Now we are going to go back through and tighten everything down evenly. Now we are going to go back through and torque them down to their specified torque rating. You can find that torque rating listed in your directions. And that will conclude the installation of hitch part number 31109 on a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Heavy Duty.
