Review of a Yakima HoldUp Plus 2 Bike Rack Extension
Today we are going to review part number Y02429 from Yakima. This is their HoldUp Plus 2. This is a bicycle rack extension. What this does is, it actually gets stacked up onto the end of Yakimas HoldUp Bicycle Rack. The HoldUp is originally a two-bike rack but with this extension, you can hold up to four bikes. We will go ahead and cover some of the features of this extension and install it on the HoldUp to give you a better idea of how it works and how it looks. All right, we will go ahead and install the HoldUp Plus 2 onto the HoldUp here. Basically, what you have got to do is take off the original bottle opener here, but do not worry, it does come with one on the HoldUp Plus 2. Take a little screwdriver and pop off the bottom tab here and push it in, and you take it right off. Then you simply slide the HoldUp Plus 2 inside.
All right, we will go ahead and install the Plus 2. Just line up the holes and your bolt. It bolts in just like a regular hitch bolt. Thread it in by hand first and then go ahead and tighten it down. Then take the supplied tool and just tighten it up. OK, then your safety pin. The Plus 2 works with the same - Im sorry - the Plus 2 works just like the original HoldUp. You get the fold-out wheel wells and the arms that hold the bike in place. And then the tilt feature of the wheel well itself in the back to accommodate different frame lengths. All right, and for safety purposes, we also include this two-light, battery-operated LED light for a little bit of extra safety and visibility of the bicycle rack. We will show you how the LED light operates it is pretty simple. There is a little push button on the back right here and it has four functions: obviously, off the second one is a constant, the third one is a flashing and the fourth one is a sequential. And then you turn it back off. And these are also removable, too: pull the tab back and it slides right off.
We will go ahead and install a bike. It is just like the HoldUp we will put it on the end here. Undo your latch, tilt this back, and bring back the front wheel holder. And obviously you can tell this is flexible. So also this will bend out of the way easily, if you need to, when you install your bike. And we will go ahead and install a bike. Take the clamp and pull it up over the front wheel and just ratchet it into place. See, your flag can move as it needs to. And then tie down the back wheel. Push it through the buckle, and it actually has a little bit of a ratchet to help snug it down. And within seconds your bike is ready to go. And that covers it for part number Y02429 from Yakima, the HoldUp Plus 2.
