Review of Shelby Winches 5460

Today we're going to review part number 5460. This is the Shelby 2-Speed Winch with a 2,300 pound weight capacity. This winch will allow you to change speeds on your winch by simply pressing a locking lever right here. And you'll be able t shirt the shaft without removing the handle from side to side which will allow you to change gears or to freespool. The handle's designed not to spin while in the freespool position. All the gears in here are heat-treated and their ratios offer easier cranking of heavy loads.

This is a corrosion resistant winch. It does have 2 speeds. The fast speed lets you pull in quickly, the lower speed offers increased mechanical advantage and then has the neutral freewheeling position like it is right here. You can just change it here and you can see. With this, as you'll see when you push this shift lever down, there's 3 indentations on the shaft.

If it's all the one on the one it is now it's engaged to the lower gear. Push it all the way to the other end and lock it into place it's engaged to the higher gear. And, again, if you put it into the very middle there's no gear it's engaged to and this is in the freewheeling mode. You can see it rotates without moving the handle. This is designed to take a 2 inch wide strap or rope.

It is not designed to be used with wire cable. This winch does have a 2,300 pound capacity and the gear ratio on the lower gear would be 11.8:1. And, basically, what that means is for this drum to turn one complete revolution will take you 11.8 revolutions of the crank. And if we shift it, push down, shift it to the higher gear, which is the bigger gear here to turn this drum one revolution will take 4.1 revolutions of the crank. And, again, it is a 2-way ratchet style.

So if it's all the way down and engaged the crank will turn counter-clockwise. If it's engaged all the way up it will turn clockwise. And then there's a middle location which would allow it to freewheel. This part is made in the USA. And that should do it for a review on part number 5460.
