Today well be looking at part number WID2, the Two-Leaf Slipper Spring for 2,000-lb Axles. When ordering a new spring for your trailer, there are a few things you do need to know first. This spring measures 27 3/8 inches long by 1 inches wide. You will need to know the spring half-length, which is measured from the center of the eye mount to the center of the spring here at the leaf bolt. And this spring has an 13 -inch half-length. One final thing you will need to know is the height of the spring and that is measured from the center of the eye mount to the top surface of the spring and the slipper part. And from that line well measure to the spring surface here at the leaf bolt.
And this spring has a 4 -inch height.Youll notice that it does have two leaves within it giving it the ability to support 1,000 lbs. When you multiply that by two per axle, that will give you your 2,000-lb total spring capacity. With the 9/16 mounting bolt hole, there is a nylon bushing within it and that bushing will help to prevent metal on metal contact while the spring is mounted on the trailer. And that does it for part number WID2, the Two-Leaf Slipper Spring for 2,000-lb axles. .
This Old Trailer: Replacing Shackle Bolts

Today on This Old Trailer, we are going to inspect and replace some shackle links. This part right here is a shackle link. And you can see here, we are actually moving it back and forth. That really should not happen. In fact, you can see if you pull it up how far the hole is worn out. Now, normally when you see a gap down here, it indicates that it is worn out too. That defiantly needs to be replaced. Now, we have the whole trailer on jack stands. And we have an additional jack underneath the axle just to help support it in case something moves around. To remove and replace them, you just have to remove these two bolts right here called the shackle bolts. However, this is a very old trailer and pretty much everything is rusted together. So at this point, we are just going to have to cut them off and start over new. We will go ahead and double check the equalizers as well. 0:51
This Old Trailer: Replacing Leaf Springs

Today on This Old Trailer, what we will be doing is replacing a broken leaf spring. In this case, the style of the spring is a slipper spring. The first thing we need to do is take off our wheel, which we have already done. We will go ahead and point out the problem. You see this edge on the top leaf of the spring, it used to be right down here, connected in one piece. :33
Trailer Leaf Spring Replacement Demonstration

Today were going to show you how to install a typical leaf spring onto a trailer. What we have here is a typical 4 leaf spring on a 3500 pound axle. The first step involved is loosening this bolt here and this bolt here on the bottom and this top one we do not have to worry about for now. The next thing we have to do is loosen these U-bolts here. The nuts are on the bottom, so we loosen these out so we can get our axle away from the spring. What were going to do first is take off this bolt and then well come around and do this one. Were going to let this spring down and our axle is going to hang down a little bit. What we did was keep the axle tight on the other side so it will come down some but it will take off most of the weight so that way we can do one at a time.
