Review of a Master Lock Lock and Load Plus

Today we are going to be showing you part number 8173D from Master Lock. This is their Lock and Load Plus. This is a center-locking U-lock which doubles as a carrier rack. It has a high-performance, hardened steel, 1/2-inch shackle which resists cutting. It has a rubberized shackle and lock body, which resists scratching. It has a center-located cylinder, which delivers superior pry resistance. It has an innovative rotating keyway cover for superior weather protection. It has a high-security disk cylinder for added pick resistance. It has a dual-locking shackle, which withstands over 3.5 tons of pull force, and it has an extremely tough, fiberglass-reinforced plastic storage bracket, which carries up to 22-pound loads with ease. It has an integrated fender to withstand the environment. It has a tool-free, quick-release mounting bracket for easy installation and adjusting. It is lightweight yet durable, and it has a flexible bungee cord with stainless steel hook to secure your loads down, whatever they may be. This product is ideal for the street, off-road or on campus. When not securing your bicycle, the lock doubles as a carrier rack. It is useful for holding books, backpacks, briefcases, small parcels, etcetera, has a weight limit of up to 22 pounds, and only one easy step to remove the lock from the carrier bracket. This has an unconditional, full lifetime warranty.

To operate this, the carrier rack attaches to the seat post, 1 inch to 1-1/4 inches diameter. Mount to a grease-free seat post close to the top of the bicycle frame. Use the quick-release feature for easy installation and adjustability. The maximum load is 22 pounds, and do not over-tighten. First off you start by removing the seat. We have already loosened up this portion here, which will release the seat. Simply pull up, pull the seat up, and get the Lock and Load. These two portions here will actually fit inside the Lock and Load and adapt it for smaller frames. We do not need that today, though. Next we will put the Lock and Load over where the seat is going to be going, and you simply put the seat through, back to the cradle, push it down to where you would like it. And then it is just a matter of tightening this up. Remember not to over-tighten. And you just close this down like so and it is secure and ready to go.

Now we are going to go ahead and put some things up there and show you what looks good and what does not. Okay we are going to go ahead and put a satchel up there and show you how that works. First off, you pull the bungee cord back like so, open it up, take the satchel, place it on it like so, and simply pull the bungee cord until it is tight over the back side of it and your load is secure and you are ready to bike on down the road. Another feature about this is it carries a lock, as well. You take off the bungee cord, and the lock lifts up like so and just slides out. Then you slide open this weatherproof cover, here, which will reveal the lock. You use the keys that are provided, which open the lock. And once you pull up to whatever bike stand that you have, you just go ahead and slide the lock around the front like so, pop the top of the lock over it, lock it up, and it is safe and secure with a weatherproof cover. The Lock and Load also provides a nice little helmet stand for you. And there you have it for part number 8173D from Master Lock, the Lock and Load Plus.
