Review of Kenda Tires and Wheels AM31245

Today, we're going to review part number AM31245. This is a Kenda Loadstar tire size ST175/80D13. This is a bias trailer tire and it is mounted on a 13-inch Dexstar Five-Spoke Aluminum Wheel. A few things on the wheel, this is a five-spoke design. The wheel does have a machine finish on the spokes and the lip of the wheel. It has a clear coating over the wheel to protect the finish.

The inset of the wheel is silver painted and also clear coated. Back of the wheel is protected also. A few measurements we're going to do on this wheel is the diameter of the wheel, which we'll measure inside to inside, which will be 13 inches. The width of this wheel is 5 inches wide. This wheel does have a 5 lug 4-1/2-inch bolt pattern.

And I'm going to show you how to measure the bolt pattern and on a wheel that has an odd number of lugs, in this case, five lugs, there are a couple of ways you can go about doing that. Since the alloy wheel has the lugs recessed and I'm going to turn it over to the back, that'll give us a little better idea of where the center of the lug holes are. What you want to do--the first way you could do it is if you drew a circle through the center of each lug hole and then measure the diameter of that circle. So in this case, if we measured from the center of that bolt hole to that outer edge of that circle we drew, it would be 4-1/2 inches so that would be 5-lug 4-1/2 inches. The other way you could do it is if you measured from the center of the lug hole to the center of the lug hole adjacent to it, so either way.

So if we measured from the center here to the center there, it would be 2-5/8 and then what you would need to do is go to the product page for this part number and at the bottom of the product page, there is a chart and that chart will list when the measurement is 2-5/8 inches. That will mean it is a 5 on 4-1/2-inch bolt pattern. This wheel does have a weight capacity of 1660 pounds at 65 psi. It does use a wheel bolt size of 1/2 inch by 20. Another critical measurement is the center hole of the wheel.

This is called a pilot hole. It goes over the hub on your trailer. We'll measure the diameter of that to get you the pilot hole diameter size and it's 3.19 inches. Now, we'll move on to the tire. Tire is a Loadstar size ST for special trailer 175/80D13. The D will actually mean that it is a bias constructed tire. This tire is a load range D that means it is an 8-ply rated tire. It does have a maximum load carrying capacity of 1610 pounds at 65 psi. This tire we have mentioned is a bias constructed tire and what that will mean is the belts on the inside of the tire will run the length of the tire as opposed to a radial where the belts will run bead seat to bead seat or the radius of the tire. What that will do is a bias tire. The side wall will usually be a little bit firmer when compared to a radial designed tire. One last measurement we're going to do is the overall diameter of the whole tire that is 24 inches. This tire and wheel combo is or does come with a limited two-year warranty. And that should do it for part AM31245.

Trailer Wheel Measurements

In this video we are going to describe how to measure a trailer steel wheel. I have two examples here one is a 14 X 5-1/2, 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern steel wheel. This other one is a 16 X 6, 6 lug on 5 steel wheel, and the way to measure to know what size it is, on the diameter of the wheel, in other words what size tire will fit on this wheel is you want to measure from the inside to the inside where the bead seats and protrudes 60 inches. In other words thats the bead seat to the bead seat. You do not want to measure over all length from edge to edge, okay and to measure the width of the wheel. Again you will not want to measure, do not measure overall because it will show 7 inches incorrect.
