Review of Kenda Tires and Wheels AM31233

Today, we're going to review part number AM31233. This is a Kenda Loadstar Tire, size ST175/80D13. This is a bias trailer tire and it is mounted on a 13-inch Deckstar White Spoke Wheel. This wheel has a white powder coat finish for superior corrosion resistance on the front of the wheel and all on the back of the wheel. A few measurements we'll do on this wheel is the diameter which will be measured from inside to inside. That would be 13 inches.

The width of this wheel is 4-1/2 inches wide. The bolt pattern on this wheel will be 5 lugs 4-1/2-inch bolt pattern. And the way to measure a bolt pattern when it has an odd number of lugs, like in this case, five, there is a couple of ways. We'll show you both of them. First way is if you draw a circle through the center of all five lug holes and then measure the diameter of that circle.

So in this case, if we measure from the center of this lug hole to the edge of that circle we had drawn would have been 4-1/2 inches. So that would say it's a 5 on 4-1/2-inch bolt pattern. The other way is if you would measure from one center of one lug hole to the center of the lug hole right next to it. So in this case, it should be 2-5/8 inches and then you'd go to the product page for this part number, and at the bottom of the page, we'll have a chart and that chart will list that if that measurement is 2-5/8 inches that will give you a bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2. This wheel does have a weight capacity of 1660 pounds at 65 psi.

The wheel does use a bolt size of 1/2-inch by 20. Another critical measurement will be this large hole in the center of the wheel that goes over the hub on your trailer. This is called the pilot hole diameter. If we measure that, it will be 3.19 inches. And now, we'll move on to the tire.

This is a Loadstar. Again, the size is ST for special trailer, 175/80D13. The D does signify that is a bias trailer tire. This tire has a load range D tire, which means it is 8-ply rated. It does have a maximum load carrying capacity of 1610 pounds at 65 psi and this tire is of bias construction and, basically, that will mean when this was built, the belts in the tire will run the length of the tire as opposed to a radial where the belts will run the radius of the tire bead seat to bead seat. The difference is the side wall on a bias tire will give you a little bit firmer ride when compared to a radial tire. This tire and wheel combo does come with a limited two-year warranty. And that should do it for part AM31233.

Trailer Wheel Measurements

In this video we are going to describe how to measure a trailer steel wheel. I have two examples here one is a 14 X 5-1/2, 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern steel wheel. This other one is a 16 X 6, 6 lug on 5 steel wheel, and the way to measure to know what size it is, on the diameter of the wheel, in other words what size tire will fit on this wheel is you want to measure from the inside to the inside where the bead seats and protrudes 60 inches. In other words thats the bead seat to the bead seat. You do not want to measure over all length from edge to edge, okay and to measure the width of the wheel. Again you will not want to measure, do not measure overall because it will show 7 inches incorrect.
