Today we're going to review part number DL15440. This is the Dutton Lainson 2-Speed Hand Winch with direct drive and a 3,200 weight capacity. All of the Dutton Lainson winches are built for multipurpose hauling and lifting operations. This winch has a weight capacity of 3,200 pounds. It is a 2-speed winch, a low and a high gear for horizontal pulling applications. It does contain high carbon steel heat treated gears, permanently lubricated bearings and a reversible ratchet.
The hub diameter size is a 1 1/8 inch hub diameter. The handle does have an ergonomic handle grip, which makes the rotating of the handle very convenient and easy and this handle is a quick-attach handle. Basically, what that means is you can just push it, remove it from this gear and put it down to the higher gear at the bottom. Very easy. Makes it easy to change from your high speed to your low gear for heavier loads.
This winch does have a zinc tough plate finish, which is a finish that has 3 times the corrosion resistance of your standard zinc-plated finish. A handle is included. Comes with a 5 year limited warranty. This part is made in the USA. Now, again, this 2-speed winch has a gear ration of the higher gear would be 5.4:1, the lower gear would be 17.3:1.
And basically, what that would mean is here I'm in the lower gear right now. So the gear ratio would mean to move this drum one revolution you would have to crank this handle 17.3 revolutions. And then if we change it and put it to the higher gear, which is down here, that ratio is 5.4:1. To move this drum one revolution it would take 5.4 revolutions of the handle. Now the handle length on this is 9 1/2 inches.
The maximum mechanical advantage of this winch is 219. It is a reversible ratchet, which means when it is down it is engaging the gears. When you push it up it will pretty much allow it to freewheel. Now on this drum the maximum cable capacity on this would be 30 feet by 3/8 wide diameter cable. The maximum strap capacity on this drum would be a 25 foot by 2 inch wide cable. 2 inches wide. And just to show you again right now I'm in the high gear. So with the ratchet engaged when you crank it goes clockwise. And again, if you just release it, it allows it to go either direction. Now if I do remove it and put it into the lower gear position it would crank counter-clockwise. And, again, if you push the ratchet it would allow it to go either way. And that should do it for a review on part number DL15440.
