Today we're going to review part number C16520-16021. This is the Curt Q16 fifth wheel trailer hitch for the Ram towing prep package. It has a sixteen thousand pound weight capacity. Now this is custom fit part. It is designed to fit the Dodge Ram and Ram trucks with the factory rail kits starting in 2013. Now this offers a two jaw locking system which provides three hundred and sixty degree jaw to king pin contact and because of that it gives you less rattle, more security than the slide bar models.
Also uses a behind the head here there's a three point color coded indicator system and that will tell you if your hitch is ready to uncouple, couple or tow just by seeing the color that's showing. If it shows green that means you're ready to tow. If it shows yellow back here, that means you're ready couple and if it shows red that means you're uncoupled. Basically, these lock indicators are visible from the cab so when you look behind you at the head, those colors will tell you what position the hitch head is in. The head itself is a fully articulating torsion head. You can see side to side and front to back.
It gives you controlled coupling, a nice stable, quiet ride. Has a lockable handle right here. Right now it uses the snapper pin to hold it into place but you can lock it into place with a padlock that we do sell separately. Has a nice short throw single handed operation. I'm going to show you in a minute how it works.
Has a self-aligning head that pivots for simple hook up. Does have three lube points in the head itself for easy access grease fittings to lube it and to remove this makes it very easy for one person to remove this hitch. It's a two pin removal. You just pull this lynch pin right out here and then the large pivot pin you just slide out the back. Allows you to take the head off from the cross member itself. Now it does include this plastic lube plate to let your king pin glide smoothly into the hitch during hookup.
This will go over the king pin, helps when the king pin slides into the hitch. That is included. Now when you mount this to the legs, on this cross member, there's a range of holes. Looks like there's about three rows of holes so when you mount this it will give you actually a height adjustment of four inches so basically when you go to set this up for your trailer you want to make sure that this hitch head is level with your trailer when you're towing so it'll give you a range of anywhere from thirteen inches up to seventeen inches of hitch height and hitch height is measured from the truck bed up to the top of the hitch head here. It does have these custom legs that it's mounted to you can see. These are designed to fit the Ram's under bed hitch platform that comes from the factory and the way you would inset it into that is you would just pull the lynch pin off here, swing your lever open ninety degrees and that rotates the tab down there and you do that on all corners and then you can drop it into the factory Ram hitch platform that's on the truck. Once it's dropped in, close it. That will rotate it to lock it into place and then just put your lynch pin back in to keep the lever into place. Now this is made, it's a sturdy steel construction. Has a nice durable powder coat finish and again the application for this is it fits the Dodge Ram and newer Ram trucks, starting in 2013 with the factory installed towing prep package. Gross towing weight on this is sixteen thousand pounds. The vertical load limit or pin weight capacity is four thousand pounds. I had mentioned the hitch height, you can adjust it from thirteen inches to seventeen inches and just want to give you an idea here, here's an example of what a king pin would like that's on your pin box of your fifth wheel so basically first thing you want to do is release the snapper pin and then all you do is take your handle, just pull it out, it's spring loaded, pull it out and then rotate it back towards the tow vehicle and you'll see the two jaws open up and then when you back up, your king pin on your pin box will be sliding in here and you can see when it slides in correctly the jaws wrap around, the handle goes into place to be able to lock and the color back here will show that you're ready in the tow position. If you're going to use a padlock, you can use your padlock or if you're just going to use the snapper pin, drop the snapper pin into place just like that. Go ahead and snap it and then your king pin is all ready to go locked into place for towing. That should do it for the review on part number C16520=16021. This is the Curt Q16 fifth wheel trailer hitch for the Ram towing prep package and has a sixteen thousand pound weight capacity.
