Installation of a Brake Controller on a 2001 GMC Yukon
Today we are going to install a brake controller on a GMC Yukon, a 2001 model, and we are going to be a brake controller using part number 90185. And we are also going to be using adapter part number 22283. All right, we are going to mount our brake controller on the bottom of the dash. And there is a steel component that is going all the way across. We will go ahead and mount to that. What we will do is actually take the bracket, find a position we like, and go ahead and clamp it into place. All right, we are going to use some self-tapping screws instead of the screws that came with the kit it is a little bit easier to drill into the metal. The screws that come with it are actually designed for plastic.
All right, we have got our mounting bracket done. Now let us go to the port that is supplied from the tow package on the vehicle, which is behind this panel right here. All right, we have the box open, and you will see this row of sockets on the top here. We are going to use the second one from the left, this one right here. And our adapter plug will just simply plug right into it. Just push it in until it clicks, and then just put the harness off to the side, and reinstall the cover. All right, we have got our brake controller we just plug the two together. We have already got power going to it, so that is a good sign. At this point, we just go ahead and bolt our brake controller to our bracket here. Now we take our excess cable here and just zip-tie it to this piece of steel here. And then back and forth just to keep it out of the way of the pedals, and we will be good to go. All right, and with a few easy steps, the brake controller is installed in our Yukon. All right, and that covers our install of part number 90185, and its adapter cord, part number 22283, on our 2001 GMC Yukon.
