Infiniti G35 Air Intake

Installation of an Air Intake System on a 2005 Infiniti G35

Today on this 2005 Infiniti G35 we are going to install AFE part number AFE54-11092. What this kit is going to do is replace the stock intake tube on the vehicle. You can see it comes with a new bracket for the filter, replace the tube and all of the hardware and the adapters needed to install. Pop open the hood when you get to the engine compartment. The first thing you need to do is take off this plastic engine cover. That way we have better access to the factory intake tube. Start disassembling the intake tube. Take this bolt out, go over here and take this one off. Next we are going to remove the factory crank case line which is this tube. Loosen the clamp up, move it back. Now we can remove the wire harness for the MAF sensor, push down this tab and it should pop off. At this point we can start removing this entire assembly. 01:22

Get started on the new parts. Take the housing here and we are going to put a trim seal on top of this and it just pushes into place. Next we will start installing our adapter part. It is a 5-1/ 2 inch adapter and what it is going to do is there are multiple holes on the adapter itself so it is only going to line up with these three holes. We will use the button head screw and washer, a wavy washer, that is what you call it. Next we are going to remove the screw from the radiator and the housing is going to fit back in the same spot and the screw is going to get reinstalled. Our housing is going to fit like I said before right here. It is going to mount with this fastener here, it is also going to mount with this existing fastener here. Using the fastener provided we are going to install this bolt back into this location with a fastener and tighten it down. 03:06

Over here we are going to reuse the factory hardware. Next we are going to take the sensor out of the stock tube and the kit does come with a special bit to do that with. The torques bit has got little security screws in there so this is a special bit so do not lose this if you ever need them again. This is a sensitive part so you want to be careful when you remove it. Set that down to the side for now. We are done with this. Now we have got our new parts. The tube, the nylon spacers, and two screws, and a gasket. The gasket is going to sit right on to the plastic part of the tube. Then our nylon washers are going to sit along side it and then our sensor will go back inside. We have got the sensor installed, put a nylon washer behind it, and then just snug down the bolts. We are going to do some more preassembly on the new intake tube. We are going to slide this adapter on and we will push it all the way on for now so we have room to work this into the new spot. Then put on the clamps. Give yourself a good idea which way you want to orient the clamp that makes it easy to get to. On the other side do the same thing. Slide it on and get the clamp to go on there. The crank case tubes get pushed on here and use the same factory fastener to hold it in place. To give us some extra wiggle room we actually unbolted this part here because it was a little bit of a tight fit. Then we will put everything back together once we get everything hooked up. We have got our tube connected loose and we will reinstall our bolt. We will make a connection to the sensor again and then we will tighten down the hose clamps. At this point we can slip on the air filter itself and then we can clamp that into place also. One final check to make sure that everything is connected tight. Make sure your clamps are tight, make sure your port to the mass airflow sensor is tight, and make sure your clamps are good. Everything is tight, lets put the engine cover back on. Next thing is to fire it up and see how it sounds. With that, that finishes our install and there you have it for part number AFE54-11092 on this 2005 Infiniti G35.
