You will need a brake controller and Brake Controller Installation Kit, item # ETBC7 . I would recommend the Tekonsha PRODIGY Brake Controller, item # 90185, or the Valley Odyssey II (TM) Geometric Electric Trailer Brake Controller,item # 32810, for your 2005 Dodge Dakota. I have the Odyssey II controller in my truck and it is an excellent product. You will also need the Valley Brake Control Hardwire Quick Disconnect Adapter, item # V30520, with the Odyssey controller. Wiring the ETBC7 will require plugging your 4-Way connector into the 7-Way connector installed on the rear of the vehicle, and then wiring the extra wires needed for the brake controller and trailer functions. Under the dash you will need to run the blue wire from the brake controller to the blue wire in the connector at the rear of the vehicle and then run the white wire to ground. Next run the red wire from the brake controller to the stop light wire coming from the brake pedal switch. Make sure to use a circuit tester, item # 3808 if needed, to find the wire that has no power until the brake pedal is pressed. Next run the black wire from the brake controller to the vehicle positive battery terminal through a 30 amp circuit breaker which is included in the ETBC7 Kit. Finally when running the accessory power wire to the 7-Way connector you will use the included 40 amp circuit breaker inline on this connection to the vehicle battery.
